  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You know, there was a saying my mother would quip from time to time. She would smile wryly and say, "My dear, you can tell a German all you want... But you can't tell them much."

I've heard that saying as well, and I can vouch for its truth, but I won't be so stupid to say how I know it, as I would be in big trouble. :D

btw, I'm part German too

Now being Lutheran and being half German, it's important that I get into the culture....

I like brats. But in a bun (too rich to eat otherwise) and I don't want onions on it. Just a bit of brown mustard.

Don't look at my age.
With a beer. NOT Bud but a Sam Adams. I had a German beer or two (or...) but so far, they've all been too light and watery. I like my beer to taste like beer.
I told you NOT to look at my age!!!

I don't think much of red cabbage or sauerkraut.
Not too into all that sausages either (except the brat in a bun).

Don't like the um-pa music.

German girls tend to be cute. Lutheran girls, in general, are the best looking of any denomination - a real plus Lutherans don't stress enough.

German cars tend to be nice, but pricy and complicated. I like my Toyota.

Which German beers have you had? I personally don't like Beck's, but I do like Lowenbrau and another one I discovered a year ago called Spaten. Try those.

Zecryphon, next time you come, don't use the alley entrance. That way no one will steal your clothes. (LOL):D Sorry, I just couldn't resist!

Has anyone tried sauerbratten? My Grandmum used to make it. She didn't often cook. But when she did it was always good. Made her own sauerkraut as well. She always had a crock of it working. My Grandfather used to complain about the German dishes, so she had Mr. Wong (their houseboy) do his cooking. Boy, could he make a killer pizza. It was to die for!:swoon: :D ;)

I've read my fifth book of the year. . .hey, that also means of the month.. .so far.. .I'm glad to get back to reading! Having the library fix all the mistakes with fees helps a lot so I can actually check out books that I want to read!

Oh, goodness. . .I just realized that my hair is now longer than the hair that my CF character has. I know my hair is not all that blonde, but it looks blonder when shorter. However, it is still too icky to get it cut as if need be I can put it down to keep warm, though I usually keep it up when it is so long so it doesn't tangle so easily.

I just turned 49, don't have to dye my hair, only have a few gray hairs and I get people asking me all the time if I dye it, I tell them no and they don't believe me. Its a genetics thing going my mom is 68 and doesn't have a whole lot of gray hair either.

as I started graying I started shaving my head. Now I don't really care. I'm going for the old hippy look.

this is kinda scary for me...i'm afraid i'll look old. guess i'll have to change my cf character in a couple of months.

You're so lucky! I had hormonal problems in my 30's that really made my hair go grey fast. I have more than my mom so I definitely have to dye my hair!

Very cool.

My dad was gray by 30. Mom is 60 and the gray she has is so even that her hair just looks lighter. I guess I got inbetween because there's enough gray for me and my hairdresser to notice, which is enough to want to color it.

Keep it long as long as you can!!

I finally had to cut mine because it was so thick and heavy it gave me headaches - it got a little more than half way down my back by then. I'm trying to grow it now, but every stylist I go to keeps wanting to layer it to death, so for me to grow it, I just have stop going to get it cut.

My hair has been grey for a long time, but at least I still have it. :p

Helps to keep the ole head warm Ya know. :) Wished I had more hair on my feet cause they are always cold. ;)
My husband was balding, so after trying a bunch of things (the long hair in back hippy look, the Hair Club for Men weave look), he just shaved it Bruce Willis short.

He definitely complains about the cold more now. And when it rains, he says it's almost painful, because he can feel every drop. So now we have a collection of hats, skullcaps and such for him.

As for grey, I am only now beginning to notice a little silvery glint. My hair was tow-blonde as a child, and only darkened once I was a teenager. My sister has always had dark hair, and her grey showed up much earlier and much more prominently than mine.

No idea if I'll dye it. Probably eventually. Don't need to yet.

You don't like sauerkraut? Must be your non-German half. Try it on your next brat - that might work for you.

My oldest son, who is half German (almost) and half Finnish (almost) with a touch of Swede and English thrown in finds Asian women to be the most attractive. Maybe that's because his mom and my significant other are both mainly German?

I've owned two BMWs. Routine maint. visits are in the $700 to $800 range around here. But there were the best driving cars I've ever experienced, bar none.
