I'd always heard 5 seasons, but still - ack!!

from article said:
Because both the producers and ABC executives talked about their packaging plans for the show next season -- they said they want to run episodes for 22 consecutive weeks, instead of splitting the program into fall and winter mini-seasons, as they did this year -- it seems reasonable to assume that Lost (which returns to the air Feb. 7 after a layoff of two months) is safe through the 2007-08 season.

But nobody said a word about a future beyond that.

I love press tours! :D

Anyway, that second article makes me feel a lot better. It sounds like they are still going for the 5-year mark. I can deal with that.

The analogy to fans of the Harry Potter books knowing that Book 7 was the end, and looking for that conclusion, was a good one.

Producers would not offer specifics on when that end point would come, but there were a few clues that the show’s fifth season might be its last. After the panel discussion, Lindelof reminded reporters that he had said since the start of the series, which is in its third year, that he thought “Lost” would last “about 100 episodes.”

There is some great stuff at the end of that Chicago Tribune article (the second that Dora posted). Really good interview scoop with Damon and Carlton, and a few mild spoilers about this season at the end.

Loved this...

This exchange was pretty funny, so I’ll reprint it in its entirety:
Question: “Is there a reason [Benjamin Linus] couldn't have, way
back when, before the Others started killing people, just wandered on over and said, ‘Hey, welcome to the island. I hear you're a spinal surgeon. I've got a tumor. Could you help a brother out?’ (Laughter.) Why does it have to be that convoluted?”
Lindelof: Well, I suppose there's certainly -- you know, there's certainly a point to be made for that version. But I would argue, no offense to your writing skills -- (Laughter) -- that that version is considerably less intriguing for a mystery show. You know, the reality is, you know, if, when Kate was first stitching up Jack, you know, she's like, ‘Who are you?’ he's like, ‘I'm a spinal surgeon. I've got some hardcore father issues. I don't think I'm going to be a good leader,’ and she's like, ‘You've got father issues? I blew up my [gosh darn] stepdad,’ you know then it would have been like, ‘Why even do the show?’ because everything's right there. (Laughter)

i have to stay up till 11pm now to see LOST?:swoon:
I know. My husband is arranging his schedule to start work a little later on Thursday mornings so we can stay up late on Wednesday nights (we're usually packing it in by 10-10:30), which I believe FatBurger said gave us the award for most obsessed Lost fans, or something like that. :D

did anyone happen to catch the clip during grey's anatomy this week? it showed kate and sawyer rowing off an island in some kayak/boat contraption, jack in the cage (again), jack and some mystery woman, and sayid (i think) running out into the ocean.

I completely agree. Knowing that the series is ending in "X" season would be the best bet.

But better to end the show too soon than too late, Cuse said.
''The worst thing is when a show ends and nobody cares,'' he said.
I completely agree with this. I would rather them end the show with many viewers and still popular then running the show a few seasons too long and it just turning into a joke.
