  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What if I reject the Bible?

Suppose I have been studying several different religions and believe that there is a God, a creator.
Suppose I decide that I cannot accept, or believe, what the Bible says. In other words, suppose I reject Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
Suppose instead I follow some other religion.
From a Chrsitian perspective, do you think I would go to Hell?

The bible says in the book of John that "In the beginning was the word, and the word was God and the word was with God which became flesh and dwelt among us. The word is Jesus Christ. His word was inspired by the Holy Spirit to be written through those that were chosen. I do know this, I would be wrong to point my finger at you and say you would go to hell, it's not my place to judge you, the Lord knows, I have my thorns, but we are to strive to be like Him, in everything. We are to seek His face and find understanding of His Word(HIM)The bible says to "Study to show yourself approved unto God." Know His word, always be ready to fight against the enemy. Every attack is from the enemy. If we reject His word, we reject Him.
God Bless You.

God judges the hearts of men through Jesus Christ. Christ is the only way to salvation, and the form of doctrine that the nations have received before the gospel of Christ reached them was through the Holy Spirit. Those who do the will of the Holy Spirit that sin in ignornance will be saved. But it is still through Jesus Christ to the glory of the Father. This is not a escape Jesus Christ card...it is a fulfillment of Christ. You have been given the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of those who believe spread by faith to faith. So then, stay with the gospel until the mystery is made known to you because Christ is key.

Matthew, by the love of Christ, I will pray for your frustration.

It is indeed frustration which we all asks..
Will we go to hell if we reject Christ?

2/3 of the world population does not believe in Christ or have never heard of them..will they go to hell?

These question sometimes anguish one's mind...same as mine.

You see, if you ask, "Tell me from Christian perspective"
There are so many.
To many, they have their own relationship with Christ.
Thus,their perspective is different.
Such a wonderful belief isn't it?

Anyways, sorry for saying these.

But 1/3, infact, is not all purely genuine christians.
I do not judge these people but I believe that God will judge, even the Christians...of their ignorance.
What can I say?

even the Chrstians are subjected to have their names out of book of life..
ouch...

The short answer to the question of rejecting Christ, is YES!!!

If you reject Christ in favor of some other supreme being (or lack of) then you do not meet the criteria for entry into heaven.

The bible is clear when it comes to people. There are two kinds of people. Believers (in Christ and God) and unbelievers, righteous and unrighteous, etc.

There is no middle ground. You believe and accept Christ, or you do not. If you do not, then you pay the eternal price of that decision.

Before anyone gets excited, the choice is made by the one who believes, or does not believe.

God simply offered the choice, just like He did in the garden when Adam and Eve committed the first sin. He gave them a choice of eating the "apple" or not. They chose to do what He told them not to do. They paid the price (which we are still paying).

Same principle applies here. You make the choice and then accept the consequences.

I don't know, because I can't tell what you're asking. I do not see any necessary connection between not accepting the Bible and not accepting Jesus.

Do you love your neighbor? Do you love God? "This do, and thou shalt live."

Sooner or later, everyone gets to talk to Jesus. Only He would know if a person truly rejected Him with a full knowledge of who He is or if they were just deceived. Only He could judge properly because He is the Creator and knows each man's heart and what they were given in life as a foundation.

I'm afraid so. There's no way around it. By rejecting Jesus and His Word, you choose to suffer your own penalty for sin. The penalty is eternal death.

In scripture it's pretty clear cut.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.”

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

1John 2:23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

2John 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

If salvation were earned through good works and deeds, then it would be conceivable that one could get there a number of ways. But since we all fall short, we must rely on someone else to earn it for us. Only Jesus measures up. Only He meets the criteria. Only He offered Himself on our behalf (2 Cor. 5:21). Rejecting Him shifts the burden back onto you, to earn salvation through works—something you nor anyone else could never do.

Dear matthew241006:
Suppose I have been studying several different religions and believe that there is a God, a creator.
Suppose I decide that I cannot accept, or believe, what the Bible says. In other words, suppose I reject Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
Suppose instead I follow some other religion.
From a Chrsitian perspective, do you think I would go to Hell?
Short answer: yes.

For a "behind-the-short answer" explanation, continue reading the following which is in a simple and easy-to-follow format:

The problem:

You may think that you are a pretty good person, and I have no doubt that you are. But are you good enough to get into heaven?

To see if you are, can I ask you a few questions?
  • Have you ever lied?
  • Have you ever committed adultery? Now, before you answer that question, Jesus said that if you even look at a woman (or man) with lust then you have committed adultery with her (or him) in your heart.
  • Have you ever committed murder? Jesus also said that if you are angry or hateful with someone that you have committed murder in your heart against that person.
Personally, it is certainly clear that I've sinned thousands of times and stand guilty of breaking these three commandments. According to Jesus, I've committed adultery countless times among with murder.
  • Added onto this, have you used the LORD's name in vain?
I know that I have many times throughout my life. These are only a few of the Ten Commandments...

The Bible says that the soul that sins will surely die and that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Now, wages are something that you are paid for work rendered; in other words, you earn your wages. Because we have all repeatedly sinned, we have earned the penalty of death, which is eternal torment and punishment in a place called hell.

However, God has been good and faithful and has given us a way to escape the penalty of our sin that we rightly deserve.

The Solution:

Jesus came to the Earth as God in human flesh with a clear objective in mind: to bridge that gap between us and God that our sins caused.

You see, when the Israelites of the Old Testament sinned, they would have the high priest go into the Temple and offer an animal sacrifice to God to atone for their sins. In a symbolic sense, this was a way of putting one's sins on the animal, which stood in the place of the guilty person. The Bible teaches that "without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins" (Hebrews 9:22). The sacrificial rituals carried out by the Israelites in the Old Testament foreshadowed what Jesus would do when He came to this Earth. After living a perfect and sinless life, He took the sin of the world upon Himself when He hung on the cross and had His blood shed for our sake so many years ago.

One interesting thing is that it is often said that you can tell the depth of a well by how much rope is lowered. When we look at "how much rope was lowered" from heaven, we realize just how grave our situation really was such that God in human flesh came down and was murdered in cold blood on a Roman cross for the very people who deserved His wrath.

The Consequences:

Thus, if you reject Jesus' sacrifice, then you are still holding onto your sins rather than symbolically handing them over to Jesus who has His blood shed as a means of atonement for your sins and God, being just and holy, must punish your sins according to His justice, which He has already said that the wages of sin is death.

You are not good enough to enter heaven on your own - neither am I. It is because of Jesus and the price He paid to atone our sins that we can come to God with the penalty for our sins already paid and go to heaven when we die. He's given you a way out through the love that He showed on the cross such that His Son, Jesus who was innocent became guilty for your sake. It's up to you whether or not you want to take God up on this offer.

Acknowledgements:

Some information came from the section "How You Can Know God" from Pastor Greg Laurie's introduction to the New Believer's Bible New Testament: First Steps For New Christians, p. A3.

I pray that God may bless you, my friend.

Thanks to all.
This was a mainly hypothetical question, as I'm not 'rejecting'. I'm just taking time to accept.
So I see there would be a difference between those who hear and reject, and those who never hear.
I'm getting into 'parable of the sower' territory.

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart."

That sounds like me, at least for the time being. But would God condemn anyone for this? After all it is "the evil one" who 'steals' the understanding, it is not, as I read it, a concious rejection.

"The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away."

This also applies to me. Mental illness can cause havoc with ones belief system.

"The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful."

Half of this applies to me, namely the 'worry' part. We all have practical concerns about our jobs, housing, family etc.

"But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Definitely not me.
So we have 4 distinct types of person here. It's clear that the last one is pretty secure in their beliefs. I guess the other 3 are not automatically hellbound. After all not everyone understands something on a first reading. So there should be some 'wriggle-room'.

We live in a world where we are bombarded with false claims all the time. But if you accidentally reject the one true claim - however badly and inaccurately that claim is presented to you - then you diserve to burn in unimaginable torment forever for your lack of gullibility.

Serious answer: would a God worth following allow people to burn in infinite punishment for eternity for an honest mistake?

If God would do this, then he isn't worth following - such a God SHOULD be rejected whatever the consequences.

There's no other way to get to heaven but through Jesus and His finished work on the cross to pay for our sins.
