  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is a persons personal sexual orientation a problem to most Christians. All that is required is that you love God and Love your neighbor, so if two Homosexuals are in your Church and they love God and love their neighbors and are going to Church, what is the problem?

Is this a trick question for some people Charles?

Homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22.
Sin is an abomination stop stressing the homosexual part......that is judging sex outside of marriage is sin the end!

Homosexuals do need to go to Church, as Christ says he came for the sick not the healthy. What you're trying to do is assert that to view homosexualty as a sin you need Mosaic law. This is simply a lie, the first Council at Jerusalem made sexual immorality forbidden, as did St. Paul. Now my question to you is this, do you kill homosexuals you encounter? According to Mosaic law that is the prescribed punishment for it.
I really mean no offence here but you really do not understand what the council was talking about. The two ruling to stay away from Idolatry and immorality and the two that follow, things strangled and blood are ALL connected to Pagan Temple rituals. The Pagans had Temple Prostitutes who you could hire for use in the Temple and as part of their rituals which were replete with sexual activities. Fertility and sex acts was center along with killing animals drinking their blood and tearing the limbs off of a live animal and eating it. The four commands were to separate the Pagans from their former ways.

YOU go Gabby! GOOD luck! I have been getting my headaches here! Amazing how one can justify sin.
Some people forget that judging others is a sin...I have said it before I am not here to convict that is the job of the Holy Spirit all brothers and sisters homosexual or other the message is to accept Christ because He ACCEPTS YOU AS YOU ARE and when the Holy Spirit speaks to you through the Word of God the answers are clear I know this to be a fact!

Judahspraise - I suspect you're missing the purpose of the OP. My guess is - it's got less to do with homosexuality itself, and more to do with our approach to scripture and our understanding and application regarding matters like this.

I would be very surprised if Charles actually thought homosexuality wasn't a sin. I suspect he's actually asking WHY YOU think it is and to justify your reasoning with regards to your understanding (if you agree) that Loving God and others is sufficient.

Personally - I see that loving God and others is sufficient... BUT scripture outline HOW to do that. To discard sins like homosexuality is to discard some of God's instructions on how to love Him and others. Those two commands don't do away with the rest, but summarize them.

Here we go again Christians are not down on homosexuals..they are following the words of God that two persons joined together be male and female and that sex is used in marriage.

I'd disagree, I think a lot of Christians get confused about the difference between their belief of male-female marriage and their hate for "sinners", ESPECIALLY homosexuals.

I'm not one to say the difference between not believing in something and hating something, but I can see the difference in loving someone and not loving someone, and a lot of Christians don't even love homosexuals. They may say they do, they may fake it in person, but through their heart and the overflow of it (words) they have nothing but despite for them.

I think Ronnierulz hit on it. I am really showing you something here, That Christains say they are under gace and not the law, until they want to prove a point like this issue on Homosexuality and then they will run to the law and say "see it is wrong, it is SIN."

Paul in Cor 5 makes a judgment about a man who married his fathers wife. He did not make this up, it comes right out of the law of God. And Paul is showing us that the law was still valid and needed to be used to teach us righteousness.

LEV 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. [7] The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. [8] The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

OK then God says it is sin and Paul uses the law to execture a judgment. So what about the other parts of this same law in Leviticus?

[22] Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. [23] Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

OK what about this one?

LEV 11:9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. [10] And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: [11] They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. [12] Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Why is it that Christians agree that homosexuality is an abomination but they do not agree that eating Pork, shellfish, rats, and such are also an abomination?

Sadly my friend you are right they do not know the difference from hating the sin not the sinner and that is the difference in God He hates the sin not the sinner....I do love homosexual people ...I know how hard it is to give up so much for God the gay life is a hard road and Christians who are gay who choose to give up the lifestyle for God this is a hard path to choose but it has been done they can not give up the love they have for the same sex it never goes away but they can learn not to act upon it and can channel that love into a Christ like love to serve the men or woman they love now their friends in Christian way and those that reach this level are truly blessed.

um I don't know! I don'tthink he does to be honest...and YEP! There are a TON of fat people....BUT they aren't saying..HEY look at my lifestyle...come be fat like me...etc. like the gays do.
Goodness! I used to hang around gays 9at the bar) and none of them said that or implied it. One can't just say "Oh, okay, I'll start being gay". Thats ridiculous. None of those people decided to be gay, unless one can decide at age 5 or so. That is an urban legend!

And it is not a sin to be gay. Its a sin to have sex outside of marriage. Unless all alcoholics who have stopped drinbking should be kicked out of church for what they are.
People need to educate themselves!

Paul is affirming the error of knowing Gods will and righteous requirements and refusing to live by them. Paul is saying that the same judgment that they deserved is reserved also for us if we follow that same error. The fact is Paul never teaches us not to regard the law.

No Paul never said the law was cancelled. He continued to teach from the law.

1 Cor 14: [34] Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

1CO 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

This is a Torah issue.

EPH 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; [3] That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Torah from the 10 Commandments

Acts 21: [24] Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

This Purification associated with the Nazarite vow requires sacrifices. It is all Torah.

Ro 3: [31] Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Ro 2: [13] (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. [14] For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: [15] Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

2 Tim 3: [14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; [15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Timothy was a Gentile and was raised in the Jewish home of his grandmother and therefore knew the scriptures from a Child.

AC 16:1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: [2] Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. [3] Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

Acts 20: [6] And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.

Acts 18: [20] When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; [21] But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

The OT ceremonial requirements, are no longer binding, but the moral requirements. God's moral laws are eternal and are binding in all cultures. Homosexuality, murder, lying, stealing, ect., are all part of the Natural Law, that God writes on the heart of all mankind.

God doesn't reject us, and we are all guilty of sins that bother Him just as much as homosexual behavior. Jesus was criticized for talking to people who lived sinful lifestyles. Many of the righteous people of the day just condemned them, called them abominations and chased them away. Yet Jesus talked to people who lived sinful lifestyles and called them to repentance. So a preacher should not "out" a gay person.
