  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Welcome to CF :wave: Feel free to PM me if you need help. :)

A Christian is a person who....

*Has acknowledge their sinful nature and has acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and forgiveness of their sins and has personally professed Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

* A person now who seeks to follow Christ in all ways of his teaching for their lives. A person who has given God lordship over their lives and now don't live for themselves.

So many people miss the boat on what a real christian is. We are NOT born Christians, We are NOT Christians just because we have a christian family, we are NOT christians just because we have been baptized. We are NOT christians because we are a member of a certain church or religion.
A person also has to be old enough also to realize and understand what is a christian and what it takes to be one.

God's Love Is Revealed in the Bible
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." --John 3:16 (NIV)

God loves you. He wants to bless your life and make it full and complete. And He wants to give you a life which will last forever, even after you experience physical death.

We Are Sinful
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." --Romans 3:23 (NIV)

You may have heard someone say, "I'm only human -- nobody's perfect." This Bible verse says the same thing: We are all sinners. We all do things that we know are wrong. And that's why we feel estranged from God -- because God is holy and good, and we are not.

Sin Has a Penalty

"For the wages of sin is death." --Romans 6:23 (NIV)

Just as criminals must pay the penalty for their crimes, sinners must pay the penalty for their sins. If you continue to sin, you will pay the penalty of spiritual death: You will not only die physically; you will also be separated from our holy God for all eternity. The Bible teaches that those who choose to remain separated from God will spend eternity in a place called hell.

Christ Has Paid Our Penalty!
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." --Romans 5:8 (NIV)

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, has paid the penalty for all your sins. You may think you have to lead a good life and do good deeds before God will love you. But the Bible says that Christ loved you enough to die for you, even when you were rebelling against Him.

Salvation Is a Free Gift
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." --Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

The word grace means "undeserved favor." It means God is offering you something you could never provide for yourself: forgiveness of sins and eternal life, God's gift to you is free. You do not have to work for a gift. All you have to do is joyfully receive it, Believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ died for you!

Christ Is at Your Heart's Door

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." --Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

Jesus Christ wants to have a personal relationship with you. Picture, if you will, Jesus Christ standing at the door of your heart (the door of your emotions, intellect and will). Invite Him in; He is waiting for you to receive Him into your heart and life.

You Must Receive Him
"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." --John 1:12 (NIV)

When you receive Christ into your heart you become a child of God, and have the privilege of talking to Him in prayer at any time about anything. The Christian life is a personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ. And best of all, it is a relationship that will last for all eternity.

:prayer: May you turn your heart to the Lord and open yourself completely to Him and know Him fully. He is real and He loves you and is drawing you to Himself. Pray. Read the Bible - all of it. Gather together with other Christians who are loving and enjoying Christ. :prayer:

I think you are a Christian. But you're right, there is something "off", it's discipleship in being a Christian.

I'd say from your words that you believe. So the advice I'm going to give you doesn't make you a Christian -- it's simply "what must I do?" now that you believe.

Find a church of people who believe Jesus is God's resurrected Son. Ask to join it. Ask to be baptized, tell them what you told us. Grow with them. Ask for instruction and discipleship. (Mt 28:18-20) Try to be open to people you see as leaders, people John in 1 John (read it) would say are followers of Christ.

Hi there :wave:

You got some really great scriptures and advice here. I'd like to just validate it by saying I agree with my fellow posters. Please find yourself a church and pastor to help you along your path with God.

It's important for you to remember that once you've asked Jesus into your heart that HE IS with you always. Trust Him and believe in Him. Now, if you have any questions or something is on your mind don't hesitate to search the scriptures for the answers and pray. Seek out other Chrisitians to help guide you too.

I am praying for you and I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and keep you.

Newbeliever :)

The initial coming to Christ is both a difficult and a simple thing, it's a profession of faith that comes, both, from your acknowledgement that you have a need, and that only Christ can fill it.

Isaiah 12
1 And in that day you will say:
“ O LORD, I will praise You;
Though You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me.
2 Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
‘ For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation.’”
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water
From the wells of salvation.
4 And in that day you will say:
“ Praise the LORD, call upon His name;
Declare His deeds among the peoples,
Make mention that His name is exalted.
-----

He won't turn away those who come to Him - just put your trust in Him and have faith. :) I'll keep you in prayers, as well.

Hi GimBo,

Hear are some questions for you to consider.

Salvation Questions

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of our Almighty God?

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary?

Do you believe that Lord Jesus Christ walked on this earth?

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and died on the Cross?

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ died to cleanse you of all sin and to redeem you with our Almighty God?

Do you believe that Lord Jesus Christ rose again on the third day?

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ sits on the right hand side of our Heavenly Father in the Heavenlies?

Do you believe that our Lord Jesus Christ has brought you back from the kingdom of darkness and bondage of Satan?

Praise God He is calling you and you are seeking Him, and answering. Wonderful!

Admit to God that you know you are a sinner.
Repent of your sins, (turn away from sin) and turn to Christ.
Believe that Jesus is the son of God, and He came to save us all, He died on the cross and paid the price for our sin. That He rose on the third day.
Ask Jesus into your heart, make a committment to follow Him and His ways all of your life.
And then tell someone that you have made Jesus Christ your Lord and saviour.

Pray something from your heart which includes all of the above, and you will be saved.

As soon as you can after this, get baptized, this is our first step to obeying God and His word. Its a public declaration of our committment to Jesus Christ. Find a good bible based church.

I would ask Jesus into my heart.

Knee down or whatever makes you comfortable and say; "Lord I'm sorry for my sins and that I have rebelled against you. From this day forward, I want you into my life as personal Lord and Savior of my life. Help me to understand your Word (Bible). I also invite the Holy Spirit into my heart to help me live a christian life. Without the Holy Spirit one doesn't have the power from God to live a christian life. We can't do it all by ourselves.

After this I would find a bible believing church; pray daily and read the Bible daily yourself and go to a Bible study. What do you pray about? At first I would ask God to help me to continually grow and know Him. Also, when you read the Bible daily - ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you read. Then after while - I pray for the salvation of my family, coworkers, etc. The Holy Spirit will guide you here. Or just worship God.

Doing this daily or at least 3-4 times a week is a must - if one is to be serious about this. The Bible renews your spirit, and mind. It spiritually cleans you continually. Its a lifestyle and life long process to become more like Christ. Also, surround yourself with christian friends that inspire you - and is a positive influence. I didn't say have nonchristian friends - but I always keep a distance with them because they can bring you down. Don't watch junk t.v. or radio and antichristian type things. It won't help your spiritual grow at all.

I know this by experience as I have had 23 years experience and will continually grow til I'm dead. Feel free to email me if have any questions.

**Make sure you go to a bible believing church and not a social feel good church with no bible and no Christ being mentioned. Those churches are phoneys.
