When a man went to the bride's father to ask for his bride, he took money, a skin of wine and a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]re erusin (betrothal contract). If the father agreed to the bride price, he accepted the money (and kept it in holding for his daughter in case of a divorce), the groom poured a glass of wine for the bride, and if she drank it (signaling that she agreed to his proposal), they were legally and officially married.
Matt 26: 26 And as they were eating, Yeshua took bread, and having blessed, broke and gave it to the taught ones and said, “Take, eat, this is My body.”
27 And taking the cup, and giving thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
28 “For this is My blood, that of the renewed covenant, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29 “But I say to you, I shall certainly not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on till that day when I drink it anew with you in the reign of My Father.”
Then the groom told his bride that he would go and prepare a place for her in his father's house!
Jn 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in Elohim, believe also in Me.
2 “In My Father’s house are many staying places. And if not, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
When people would ask the groom when the wedding was to be, he would tell them, "No one knows the day or the hour, but my father", (as the father was supervising the work and progress of his son and his wedding chamber for the bride).
Matt 24:33 “So you also, when you see all these, know that He is near, at the doors.
34 “Truly, I say to you, this nation of people shall by no means be passed by until all this takes place.
35 “The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.
36 “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only.
The "ketubah" (marriage contract) was signed at the wedding, and in it were the promises and conditions of the bride and groom that they agreed to in their marriage. The ketubah was given to the bride's parents for safe keeping.
I'm guessing that the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]re erusin is also given to the parents, and this could be a picture of Adonai having and preserving the Torah.
Could it be that right now those who believe and follow Him are under the "engagement" contract, with the "wedding" contract yet to come into force? From old to new? Could this be another teaching that our Christian leaders have taught us wrong? Just thinking.
