The movie this week was X-Files and wow - what a bitter disappointment. Back in the early 90s my wife and I watched the show religously. I can remember it being a part of our Sunday evening routine - and have fond memories of experiencing the adventures of FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who every week dived into the realm of the paranormal, UFOs, and grand government conspiracies. This was back before the time of TEBOW and we would always forgo the Sunday Night football game to watch the show.
It was a blast - but none of the things that made the show cool were in the movie. In fact - Fox and Dana aren't even agents any more! I had also appreciated the fact that those two kept their relationship strictly professional but now you have them living together and in a relationship.
The acting was okay - but the chemistry wasn't that great - probably because you have two actors who have played roles that comprised only a professional relationship suddenly thrown into a "marriage" type situation. None of the old mysterious characters like "smoking man" made an appearance - though Deputy Director Skinner shows up briefly. To top it off this was nothing more than a detective type story which is aided by the help of a psychic priest in finding a killer.
The movie tries to present some ethical dilemnas and deals with forgiveness a little bit - but neither were very captivating to really make a lasting impression or solidify a point. My recommendation is to just stick with the first 5 years of the series and leave it at that.
