if a person was honest and they understood the bible to be a plain thing then they would reject and hate God for being evil and imo that was part of Gods plan as was foreshadowed when Abram almost sacrificed his own son, which the angel stopped and instead a fleshly beast was sacrificed.
because once we start to reject God when we think he is evil God will save us from our terrible confusion of who he is because we will start to reject evil and love the good and so the letter or flesh of the bible will be put in it's proper place and we shall be given freely the wisdom that is from above.
but many Christians are very willing to exempt God from what appears to be reprehensible behavior because they believe in an authoritarian God rather than a God of wisdom and love.
for example judges 11:39, here God accepts a father killing his daughter over a vow he made. another example is numbers 15:36 where it seems God told his people to kill a guy who picked up sticks on the wrong day. and yet what do Christians say about this kind of stuff? they say that God is holy and just (he is indeed such) in his actions because they do not know their left hand from their right.
Heb 5:13-14 (YLT) for every one who is partaking of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness--for he is an infant, and of perfect men is the strong food, who because of the use are having the senses exercised, unto the discernment both of good and of evil.
Matt 6:21-23 (YLT) for where your treasure is, there will be also your heart. `The lamp of the body is the eye, if, therefore, thine eye may be perfect, all thy body shall be enlightened, but if thine eye may be evil, all thy body shall be dark; if, therefore, the light that is in thee is darkness--the darkness, how great!
Deut 30:15-16 (YLT) `See, I have set before thee to-day life and good, and death and evil, in that I am commanding thee to-day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commands, and His statutes, and His judgments; and thou hast lived and multiplied, and Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in the land whither thou art going in to possess it.
Deut 30:17-18 (YLT) `And if thy heart doth turn, and thou dost not hearken, and hast been driven away, and hast bowed thyself to other gods, and served them, I have declared to you this day, that ye do certainly perish, ye do not prolong days on the ground which thou art passing over the Jordan to go in thither to possess it.
Ps 37:7-13 (YLT)
Be silent for Jehovah, and stay thyself for Him, Do not fret because of him Who is making prosperous his way, Because of a man doing wicked devices.
Desist from anger, and forsake fury, Fret not thyself only to do evil. For evil doers are cut off, As to those waiting on Jehovah, they possess the land.
And yet a little, and the wicked is not, And thou hast considered his place, and it is not.
And the humble do possess the land, And they have delighted themselves In the abundance of peace.
The wicked is devising against the righteous, And gnashing against him his teeth. The Lord doth laugh at him, For He hath seen that his day cometh.
