Inner And Outer Man

2Cor 4:16-18 (ESV2011)
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Col 1:15-17 (ESV2011)
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

I would say that our spirit or inner self is a nonlocal or extradimensional matrix of self that started off as an seed of undifferentiated simplicity until it went through a process of experiences such as this world.

but this matrix is some yet uncomprehended aspect of reality with it's own set of rules. it's getting imprinted upon by the focused material experiences of reality that form our body... which arises to and adds to this matrix moment by moment. when death happens the focused visible part falls back into simpler component parts and the matrix aspect remains.

this world is non-local but there are many and they interact and influence and help to form one another, like some kind of hyperdimensional spectrum of being which God has providence over and orders and arranges in a kind of complex hierarchy moment by moment as he sees best. this spectrum of being is eternal and for those united to God is a glory.
