Philippians 3:3 (ESV)
For we are the circumcision, who worship
by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ
Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh.
(Italics mine)
Paul goes on to recount his ability to boast
in accomplishments of his flesh... and by
all counts he did have reason. Yet, he
forsakes all reliance on his works to know
the surpassing greatness of the life Jesus
brought him into. I imagine some saying
Paul is referring only to his life under law.
Yet, in vs 12 & 13 he says this:
'Not that I have already obtained this or
am already perfect, but I press on to make
it my own, because Christ Jesus has made
me His own. Brothers, I do not consider
that I have made it my own...'
He focuses his striving on knowing all it
means to have been redeemed in Christ Jesus.
I'm concerned by the misplaced faith some
have in obedience... and pray, as Paul,
they learn to refuse to place any confidence
in flesh. Jesus (our life-giving Spirit) alone,
is worthy of our trust.
Those who have read posts I've written, know
I do not discount obedience. Having the
Spirit of Life (in Christ Jesus) gives liberty to
walk in holiness... as Jesus. Let's strive to
glory only in Him.
