We as human beings, besides loving and forgiving one another, really seem to have a hard time with waiting on the Lord. We have been trained by our western culture that we should always be gratified immediately. If it isn't entertainment, or collecting things, it could be something like drugs or sex. The internet gives us the freedom to look up or watch anything we want whenever we want. We could talk to someone half-way across the globe. This wasn't an option in other eras. I think all of this unbridled freedom has made people even more rebellious against the Lord. I believe this is the reason that Paul describes the people of the last days in this way:
2 Timothy 3
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
These are not good people, and certainly not patient people. Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Meaning, if you love pleasure more than you love God you won't wait for God. You will indulge in whatever you feeling like doing whenever you feel like doing it. Waiting on the Lord takes self-control, of which these people have none. Are we as Christians like that? If we are then we need to repent and ask God to change our hearts.
The things of this world will leave us feeling empty, but if we wait on the Lord then we will be filled with His strength and ability to do all that He wants us to do:
Isaiah 40:28-31
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint
