Would I just give thanks
When the hurt persists
When the nagging nuisance
Hangs around.

I would muster images
Of good fortune
Of scores of favours
God-sent.

Family, fitness,
Travel, training,
Friends who bring a smile,
Healings, challenge met.

Breathtaking sights, sounds,
Silence of blessed reflection,
Laughter shared.
Shelter when storms pass through.

But here’s the rub.
A little voice intrudes
Hinting I don’t deserve this
And that God is busy elsewhere.
