The Ultimate Litmus Test

But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God]." (Romans 8:9 AMPC)

When you accepted Jesus into your life, the Holy Spirit comes in and put a seal of eternity on you. From that time going forward, the onus lies on you to listen to His instructions and guidance. You are expected to reference Him in your everyday decision-making. You are to always resist your natural ways of responding to issues.
But if you do not have the Holy Spirit, you are not of Christ.
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." (Romans 8:14 AMPC)
Our level of yieldedness to the leadership of the Spirit confirms our relationships with God. We cannot claim to be His and continue to live according to the dictate of our human nature. The presence of the Holy Spirit confirms wether we belong to God or not. It is not enough to go about confessing that you are a child of God. Confession of faith will not be enough, are you allowing His Spirit to direct you affairs? This is what makes you a true child of God. Ishmael may go about claiming he is from Abraham, the question is "does God acknowledge that he (Ishmael) is the heir to Abraham?" Claiming and confessing are not enough, God knows those that are His, the presence of His Spirit is the ultimate litmus test.

ACTION PLAN: Have you been to Jesus? Are you still in Him? What is your relationship with the Holy Spirit, is He the one directing your affairs all the time? We must individually consider these questions.

PRAYER: Father, help me to yield to the leadership of your Spirit all the time.
