I just watched a video of a test they did, I think it was in the 40's, where other than color they had two identical baby dolls. One doll was white, the other was black. They set the dolls in front of different children, I'd guess 3 to 5 years old. They were asked to point out which doll was the bad one. My heart broke as black children pointed to the black doll. They were asked, "why is that doll the bad one?" One little girl, while rubbing and looking down at her arm said, "I don't know, it's just nasty".
Where did we get the description of "black" representing bad? I don't see that scripture described it to us like that. In scripture, Isaiah 1:8 it reads:
Again, just a thought.
Where did we get the description of "black" representing bad? I don't see that scripture described it to us like that. In scripture, Isaiah 1:8 it reads:
"Come now, let us reason together,” says Adonai. “Though your sins be like scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will become like wool".
God uses the description of an evil heart as "Scarlet" and "White like snow" for a heart of sin washed away. Now, just thinking here, there is no human being whose color of skin is actually "scarlet" or "white like snow" so maybe we should re-evaluate how we convey the colors "black" as a representation of evil and "white" as a representation of righteousness.
Again, just a thought.
