We all want to be someone.
We all want to do something.
We all want to go somewhere.
We all want what we want.
I remember when God made it clear that he wanted me to go back to school and move 7 hours away from my family and friends.
I cried
I kicked
I screamed
But, if it's what God wants, shouldn't that be enough for me? Shouldn't I trust him and know it is far better than what I imagine for myself?
It's easy to make our own goals but if they aren't aligned with what God is calling us to do, it isn't a life rich in purpose and meaning. We are chasing the wind. Sure, it could still be a good life but don't settle for just good.
When someone I talk to has a "good" life and doesn't have the Lord I always ask them the question, "have you ever had a relationship where you were so in love with that person you felt you'd be with them forever and was devastated when it ended?" (I know this is a random question and seems irrelevant but it's not I promise).
Every time I have ever asked anyone around my age (or older) that they always have said yes. So I ask the follow up question, "now, once you got out of that relationship and into a better one were you able to see the faults of the old and that it wasn't really as great as you thought it was? (Sometimes it is even toxic and the person had blinders on). When they say yes, I tell them. "That's how life is with Jesus". You may have a life you feel is great but there is something so much better for you that you haven't experienced yet and you are just settling for second best and don't even know it.
You may feel your life is going just fine. Maybe God has told you to do something or go somewhere and you are fighting it because you don't want to give things up or don't trust it really could get better.
It can.
Don't settle for less, don't set your mind on things of this world, and certainly don't hold on to what God is telling you to let go. Surrender yourself and your ambitions to the Lord. You won't regret it.
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things of this earth. For you have died and you life is hidden with Christ in God".
Colossians 3:1-3
When you give yourself to the Lord, your life turns in a new direction but it isn't a road too rough to go down and you won't be alone
(And I'll let you know, moving and listening to God has been one of the best decisions I have ever made).
