Thankfulness

Deut 26:1-11

So when they entered the land that God had given them as an inheritance, and possessed it and dwelled in it, they were to take the first of all the produce, put it in a basket, and take it to the synagogue in Jerusalem. They were not to do this though UNTIL they conquered the land. Traditionally it took them about 14 years to do that. After they had totally erased the memory of Amalek (see the last part of last entry), then they were to take their first fruits to the Kohen in charge for their time slot and declare before him that he had entered into the land that God had promised them. The Kohen would take the basket and set it down before the altar. Then they would declare again before God how their ancestors were all slaves and all about their pasts and how they were in slavery but how God did miraculous deeds to free them and delivered and now here they are in the promised land of milk and honey and they had their own land and in thankfullness they were now offering the first fruits of that land to God. I've paraphrased of course :)

They then placed their offering before the Lord and worshiped Him. Then they could leave and celebrate and rejoice and eat of the fruit of the land with their family and friends and the Levites, and foreigners with them.

Feast of First Fruits

We must never not be thankful to God and all that He has done. Remember where you came from. Give thanks to God.
