Walk with me through the Bible and reaffirm your total dependence on God. Seek God’s guidance as you read through this brief study. It’s likely we all have some small aspect of ourselves that we are hanging onto which needs to be fully surrendered to God. Let the Word of God speak to you in this moment.
“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say ‘The potter has no hands’?” Isaiah 45:9 (NIV)
“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)
No matter where you’re at in your life, you are God’s creation. As followers of Jesus Christ, our mission is not to create our own path, but to let go of ourselves and follow God’s path.
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25 (NIV)
Sometimes we make the mistake of trying to figure out what we are supposed to do for God, when all we need to do is look around and see what he’s already doing and join in that effort.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (NIV)
If you don’t believe that you are qualified to join in God’s effort – whatever it may be – let go of that notion and trust him to provide you with the needed tools.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Once we surrender fully to God, we are no longer operating in our own power – we are directly connected to the power of God.
“Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 (NIV)
