What people say and what they mean = two different things. Here bes what daimonizomai encounters not just on CF but in many "Christian" communities, especially among those immature in the faith who delusionally believe themselves mature because they have stayed the same for years:
Obeying God: treating faith like a religious behavioral modification program instead of a relationship with Christ.
"Choosing" Christ: embarking on the behavioral modification trip, placing yourself under the law and tearing yourself to pieces every time you stumble or sink -- which will be more often than not, now that your eyes bes upon yourself and your performance -- because, let's face it, the beatings must continue until morale improves, and obviously vinegar attracts more flies than honey as they say.
"Choosing" Satan: failing to conform to the subcultural demands of those who run religious behavioral modification programs and call them "faith". Refusing to submit to the toxic soteriology forged by the Ayn Rand-esque contingent who believe in rugged individualism, "will power" and the pulling of self by one's own bootstraps rather than the Gospel of Christ which postulates us as being helpless in our sins without Him. Refusing to bother with the fracking behavioral-modification trip because you've gone that route and you know not only does it never work, but it actually deteriorates, corrodes, and shipwrecks faith itself.
"Choosing" (period). A guilt-laden epithet for anything you have no power to control in yourself or your life. To be hurled at you by well-intentioned idiots who fracking don't get it
and don't realize themselves to be pulling the equivalent judgment of claiming a paraplegic simply "chooses" not to walk.
