Ezekiel 3:16-27 (New King James Version) Ezekiel Is a Watchman
16 Now it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 17 “Son of man, I have made you a WATCHMAN FOR THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and GIVE THEM WARNING FROM ME: 18 WHEN I SAY to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him NO WARNING, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; BUT HIS BLOOD I WILL REQUIRE AT YOUR HAND. 19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
20 “Again, WHEN A RIGHTEOUS MAN TURNS FROM HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AND COMMITS INIQUITY, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 NEVERTHELESS IF YOU WARN THE RIGHTEOUS MAN THAT THE RIGHTEOUS SHOULD NOT SIN, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.”
22 Then the hand of the LORD was upon me there, and He said to me, “Arise, go out into the plain, and there I shall talk with you.”
23 So I arose and went out into the plain, and behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, like the glory which I saw by the River Chebar; and I fell on my face. 24 Then the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and spoke with me and said to me: “Go, shut yourself inside your house. 25 And you, O son of man, surely they will put ropes on you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them. 26 I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. 27 But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.
Question: what is the difference between warning and judging? Does this passage pertain to us? Is Jesus contradicting what the bible teaches? Jesus always expounded on law in the NT. He never changed one tittles or jot. So here goes…
Warning in the KJV concordance defines it as to caution one concerning his action. Cambridge Dictionary defines warning as something that makes you aware of a possible danger or problem especially one in the future. Revisiting the term judging in KJV concordance it means to pass sentence. The Cambridge Dictionary states to judge is to form, give or have as an opinion, or to decide about something or someone, especially after thinking carefully So the difference is warning of a danger as oppose to forming or deciding an opinion of someone or thing.
How does God warn us? Using the KJV Cyclopedia Index:
A.Thru HIS word- Ps 19 v 7-11
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward
B.Thru a prophet- Ezek 3 v 17-27 (see above for full scripture)
C.Thru a messenger- Acts 20 v 31 (thru Paul)
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God[c] which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.
D.Thru a dream
12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee
E.Thru an angel
22 And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.”
F.Thru, God, Himself
7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
And there can be two reactions to God’s warning: obedience or rejection. Rejection ultimately results in judgement, death, hell and destruction.
Have I confused warning with judgement? Using Ezekiel 3 as excuse to debate with unbelievers to point out their sin? Could it be that it has to do with the matter of the heart?
