Scripture References For Those Troubled By Fear

Speaking for myself I at times struggle with fear, whether it be anxious thoughts, worst case scenario ruminations or just generally stemming from a lack of faith that the Lord has everything in control. So I have gone through the bible to pull out some scripture for those who might have similar struggles. And remember, the only fear we should have is a fear of the Lord Almighty.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave or forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV)

-Moses speaking to the Israelites and preparing them to enter the land of Canaan.

"Be strong and courageous....It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." (Deuteronomy 31:7 ESV)

-Moses speaking to his protégé Joshua, who is to lead Israel into Canaan.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9 ESV)

-The Lord speaking to Joshua before the campaign against the land of Canaan.

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4 ESV)

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1 ESV)

"Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil." (Psalm 37:8 ESV)

"In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (Psalm 56:11 ESV)

"Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes." (Proverbs 3:25 ESV)

"Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread." (Isaiah 8:12-13 ESV)

-The Lord speaking to the prophet Isaiah about who he should really fear.

"Say to those who have an anxious heart, "Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you." (Isaiah 35:4 ESV)

-The Lord speaking to Isaiah in regards to the exiles of Israel.

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." (Isaiah 43:2 ESV)

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 10:28-33 ESV)

"I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothing....And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?....And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father know that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added unto you." (Luke 12:22-31 ESV)

-The Lord Christ speaking to his disciples on what they should be really focused on.

-The Lord Christ speaking to the Church of Ephesus.
