The Lamp Parable Comprised of Matthew, Mark and Luke
The AudienceMatthew - Sermon on the Mount: Crowd and Disciples
Mark - Disciples
Luke - Disciples
“You are the light of the world. A city located on top of a hill cannot be hidden, nor do they light a lamp and place it under a basket, a bed or a jar, but on a lampstand; it shines of those in the house. For nothing is secret except so that it may be revealed; and nothing hidden that will never be known and come to light.
In the same way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear! Take care what you hear and consider how you listen!
With the measure by which you measure out, it will be measure out to you, and will be added to you. For whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
***
The Word of God is a seed of light and also salt of the earth to be shared and not hidden away, otherwise darkness would stay present in our life and our flavour would be lost. To be salt and of the light is to glorify Father God and if we lose our saltiness, then our works for the Father would be dead and without glorifying Him. How then will anyone listen to what we have to say about Jesus Christ if our salt is tasteless? Our light should be lit among darkness so others may see the light we hold as our God is alive and active.
Small Testimony
I used to hide in darkness all the time because I thought if no one could see me I would be safe. How deceived I was, but God saw me. His Light is so bright and every time He got close to me, I’d hide again in darkness. I did this so often and I didn’t know what I was doing or where I was headed, like a scared animal. I stumbled around in darkness for many years until I finally became brave enough to confront His Brilliance with my repentance and broken heart. By sacrificing myself for His Way did I find my life in Jesus Christ. In this exact way do we become a living lamp in the darkness and salt to a bland world.
