Yeast/leaven

Audience: Disciples, Crowd
Matthew 13:33
Luke 13:20

“He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and put into three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.”

**Note** Jesus spoke parables to fulfill what was written in Psalms 78:2 which is cross-referenced in Matthew 13:35

Jesus is speaking to His disciples (and the crowd in Luke) about the Kingdom of Heaven/God and how He should compare it. God’s entire creation is like the heavenly kingdom in one way or another. We, humans, are made in His image: Genesis 1:26-27. There are so many ways that Jesus Christ has spoken about how God’s Kingdom is like what we see on earth. God’s Word is how we know what His Kingdom is like, and not through traditions of mankind. The Pharisees that Jesus came across did this very thing, which Jesus rebuked them: Mark 7:8 and Colossians 2 which Paul speaks also against - the elemental spirits of the world.

With so many interpretations out there, God knows what His own Word means and shares with His people - His wisdom. Take care that no one deceives you from what is written and taught by the Holy Spirit: 1 John 2:27-28

Small Testimony
I didn’t have a dad who taught me the things of this world, or a mother who emotionally nurtured me. I was told about Jesus Christ, but not taught. Though I had a hard childhood growing up, I did have a Father who looked out for me, if I listened to Him of course. I didn’t know this at the time, but when I became born again and looking back at my life with new eyes, I saw He was there! Even when He was silent, Father God was still there. Waiting so patiently for me to return to Him - the One who made me from my mother’s womb. God was trying to teach me about His ways, I just hadn’t accepted Him fully then, but once I had fully surrendered and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour over my life; I can see things more clear - although still darkly through the human lens, but God gives the Light of His Wisdom so that we can walk through such darkness. I like to think of it as the Wizard of Oz. Instead of the yellow brick road, we have the Light of Jesus lighting our path to His glorious Kingdom in a darkened world.
