Receiving And Doing Favours

Examples:
-the husband who is sole breadwinner. Who tends to see it as their right to belittle or complain to his stay at home wife about her shortcomings.
-staying at a family member's house for 3 or 4 days. The family member may see it as their right to lecture you on where you are going wrong in your life. To speak rudely to you.
-a parent who is giving their child extra money for miscellaneous expenses, but gets no appreciation from them.
Doing favours for people and not expecting anything in return. How many of us, can truly say that we have reached that ideal? Have we ever felt disappointed in others lack of gratitude? And have we ever been on the receiving end of abuse, after someone has done us a favour?
Once I stayed at a sibling's home for almost a week. I bought them a present and offered money for food. But I fear my appreciation was not enough for them. I was on the receiving end of abuse from my brother on a car journey to a train station. Of course I forgive him but I fear getting myself into such a situation again. When I feel at the mercy of someone because they did me a favour.
