I found a national newspaper article and was about to move on until I saw this statement regarding what was happening in Lakeland, Florida:
Look for more of these hyper-charged events, led by charismatic healers with devoted followers, said Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute."We're in desperate times, and we've got desperate people. And they're looking for a quick fix," Hanegraaff said in an interview from Charlotte, N.C. "But all they're getting is false hope."
I nearly choked on my coffee.
I am normally not an aggressive person and it takes a lot for me to get passionate so you can imagine that Mr. Hanegraaff arrogant statement caused my nose to flare like a bull.
If what Hank Hanegraaff said was true…then the Church has failed these people. WHERE WAS THE CHURCH WHEN THESE PEOPLE NEEDED HEALING, TO BE FREE FROM DRUGS AND ALCOHOL, TO BE FREE FROM THEIR SIN?
We were too busy with our prosperity messages, our full conferences and our entertainment venues. We talked about Jesus but when we walk out of the church do people see Jesus in US?
Let me take CF for example, it is suppose to be two things a social website to fellowship with one another AND a ministry outreach to those who do not know Jesus. But every time I post people want to DEBATE, ARGUE, FLAME, NITPICK EVERY WORD YOU SAY, CREATE DIVISION, SEPARATE OURSELVES FROM EACH OTHER AND TAKE A SIMPLE MESSAGE THAT JESUS TRY TO CONVEY AND MAKE IT COMPLICATED OR WORSE: SIMPLE IGNORE YOU.
AS A BODY OF CHRIST: WE ARE TEARING EACH OTHER APART. LOVE OF MANY HAS GROWN COLD… WE FIGHT AMOUNG DENOMINATIONS AND FAITH BASED GROUPS INSTEAD OF FOCUS ON WHAT UNITES US.
I HEAR MORE TALK ABOUT THE BIBLE AND INTERPRETATION AND LESS SAID ABOUT JESUS AND HIS MINISTRY.
If it’s true what Hank Hanegraaff said then these “desperate people” ran to a false healer. WE AS THE CHURCH ARE TO BLAME AND WHO DO YOU THINK GOD IS GOING TO HOLD ACCOUNTABLE? WE ALL WILL BE SURPRISED AT JUDGEMENT DAY WHO WILL BE ENDING UP IN HELL AND THOSE WHO AREN’T.
Why would these desperate people would rather sell their souls to the devil then to enter a church? BECAUSE WE HAVE BECOME THE LOVELESS CHURCH, SHOWING NO MERCY OR COMPASSION TOWARDS OTHERS, ALWAYS LOOKING AND ACCUSING OTHERS BELIEVERS OF FALSE DOCTRINES. WE GOSSIP AND TEAR each OTHER APART AND THE NON-BELIEVERS ARE WATCHING US.
I TELL YOU, THEY ARE PROBABLY THINKING IF KNOWING JESUS MEANS HAVING TO BE LIKE THIS THEN I DON’T WANT TO KNOW HIM.
PEOPLE ARE NOT STUPID AND CAN SENSE WHEN SOMEONE IS GENUNINE IN THEIR WALK WITH GOD OR NOT. YOU CAN’T FAKE IT BY PLAYING CHRISTIAN AND TALKING CHRISTIANESE. CHURCH IS THE BODY OF BELIEVERS… IT IS US, NOT A BUILDING OF BRICKS AND MORTAR. WE TEND TO FORGET IT AND TREAT THE BUILDING AS A SUNDAY WEEKLY SOCIAL CLUB AND THEN GO OUT TO EAT AFTERWARDS.
OUR CHURCH HAS LOST THE POWER THAT ONCE WAS DEMONSTRATED IN THE BOOK OF ACTS. WE ARE A POWERLESS CHURCH DESPITE THAT WE THINK WE ARE RICH WHEN IN FACT WE ARE POOR IN SPIRIT.
On top of it, we think we can fit God into a box and take HIM out whenever we want. It does not work that way. It is either YOU LIVE FOR JESUS OR YOU DON’T…BECAUSE WHEN JESUS COMES THERE WILL BE NO DEMILITARISED ZONES…NEUTRAL TERRORITORY, MIDDLE OR MODERATE OR LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE GROUNDS…YOU ARE EITHER WITH HIM OR AGAINST HIM SIMPLE AS THAT.
On a quieter note, perhaps this is what Paul spoke about the falling away of the church…fallen away from being powerful to powerless. Perhaps this is what Jesus meant this to the church by ‘MANY WILL BE OFFENDED, AND SHALL BETRAY ONE ANOTHER, AND SHALL HATE ONE ANOTHER.’ If we are to be honest, can you say that we as believers REALLY love one another?
