Podcasts List

Here is a list of the podcasts that I hope to get to - keep in mind the list is considerably long. Astericks will be placed beside podcasts I have listened to/commented on. I also procrastinate and have a bad memory - so this likely won't be updated frequently or consistently.

5 Minutes in Church History with Stephen Nichols
A weekly podcast that provides an informal and informative look at church history.

Almost Heretical
Two ex-pastors (Nate Hanson and Tim Ritter) daring to question the so-called orthodoxy of American evangelicalism. Conversations on faith, the Bible, church and more.
8/2/2018 - Authority over her own - head (1 Corinthians 11:2-16) Interesting views on Hierarchy. Depicts Paul's wording as cultural as the times and further examples - part of a series.

12/19/2018 I havent listened to this much but it hasn't grown on me yet. Not a favorite so far.

Alpha and Omega Ministries
The latest feed from Alpha and Omega Ministries on SermonAudio.com.
8/16/18 - Dealing With the Big Issues, Nabeel Qureshi, Truly Bad IFD, Thoughts from the Reformation. While the topics are interesting, I can't get into the speech style and pausing. I will give the podcast another chance with another episode later.
9/10/18 - The Statement on the Social Justice Issue -- It's clear he has a firm opinion on this, as not only did he published the statement and defending it on Sept 4th, but also did a follow-up continuation of sorts on 'A Response to Union Theology Seminary.' I haven't heard the latter just yet, but he was a co-writer and signer of the statement that is being discussed on multiple podcasts. I heard about it last week through another Podcast, but it looks like it was perhaps taken down -- or else I just suck at finding it. That one was ranting about the statements, but of course Alpha and Omega is defending. Doctrine and Devotion has also done a segment on this, but I haven't had a chance to listen to that one just yet either.

Ancient Faith Commentaries
8/17/18 - Teaching Protestants about Saints and Icons, 6 min
Apologia Radio - 12/19/18 Update This has become a top favorite. It's interesting combination of people, fun, and discusses topics I'm interested in.They do seem to have a huge mission regarding Abortion, so even if it is not the topic, it seems to be brought up ever episode I've tried.

08/08/18 - Meet Bishop Eduard Khegay: July 23rd. Interviews a bishop who came to Christian skeptical and from the Soviet Union. He speaks of his conversion, call and life as a Christian in Russia. Interesting podcast if you like hearing about others conversion experiences. He makes a point that even if our governments do not seem to get along - he's heard some refer to it as Cold War II - that as people of the faith we should still be friends and get along. He said the missionaries from US has dropped significantly, and when asked why many have stopped coming, he is told they are afraid of visiting Russia anymore due to political climate and media.

This podcast series is an attempt to present a holistic and comprehensive perspective on the treatment of addictions combining the value of both traditional 12-step recovery fellowship participation and the pure methods of treatment within the Holy Orthodox Church as taught by the Fathers and Mothers.

Healthy Minds Healthy Souls
Hosted by Fr. Nicholas and Pres. Roxanne Louh. Fr. Nicholas is the priest at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville, Florida, and Dr. Roxanne is a licensed clinical Psychologist who uses her extensive training in private practice.
7/23/18 - Resolutions. I like the idea of this podcast being a husband and wife team with the husband being a priest and the wife being a licensed psychological with a private practice. In Resolutions, they reassure members of how hard any kind of change is and discuss some of how the brain works when it comes to setting habits, trying to give a scientific reasoning for why it's so hard to alter long-term habits. It was interesting food for thought, although I did not learn anything outrageously insightful or life-changing. The examples of how hard it is for others to change small habits was at least reassuring since I'm a creature of habit who has goals that are hard to adjust to and meet.
12/19/2018 Update - Continues to be impressive. I just listened to their podcast on Anxiety yesterday and today since it's been a stressful time.

Sheologians
Join Joy the Girl from Apologia Radio and Summer White as they discuss the Christian worldview in this micro-podcast.
I've listened to one or two more of theirs and like these gals. I've listened to several podcasts - they DO veer off topic too much and it's annoying how joking and off topic opens every podcast, sometimes 10-20 minutes before starting the subject matter - but they seem to have head on their shoulders, are calm and reasonable, and stand by their guns with sense when discussing important issues. They aren't afraid to mention some semi-controversial stuff, either. I like that each podcast has a description on their webpage so you can leave comments. I hate when you can't leave comments anywhere on the podcasts.

Update - 3/9/2020 - I got rid of this one. I listened to quite a bit of it but it's too problematic and life is too short. I prefer Theology Gals.

Theology Unplugged
This one has become a favorite.

Tending the Garden of Our Hearts
Tending the Garden of our Hearts: Meditations for Families offers weekly meditations for families, with Saint's stories, Scriptures and lessons designed to open up conversation and to enrich the family's Little Church.
7/23/18 - Listened to 'Why Tend the Garden of our Hearts? - While comparing spiritual growth to plants, trees or gardens isn't anything new, it is probably one of the most used because it illustrates the points of taking care of what you 'grow' in your mind and actions and what you should weed out. This podcast was worth listening to and carried across these messages even further by bringing up the quoted illustrations from various sources and then expanding on their points with the podcasters own thoughts or examples. Saint Antony the Great: 'The fruits of the Earth are not brought to perfection immediately, but by time, rain and care. Similarly the fruits of men ripen through a set of practice, study, time, perseverance, self-control, patience and self-control.'

8/3/2018: Christians Responding to Gun Violence, 28 Minutes. Some good points, although the emphasis on the mentally ill again....most group shooters seem to be sociopaths. This is different, and mentally Ill are the scapegoats. The majority of mentally ill are not violent.

The Happy Rant
I didn't update as I listened to these and some podcasts blend together, but I enjoyed the episodes I heard A Star is Born, The Pursuit of Fame, and Church Lawsuits,
Elections, Sexiest Man in Reformedom, and Church Home Global, etc. They are fun, but they also cover important topics. I like the humble appeal, and the hosts come across as likable.

The Liturgists Podcast
Michael Gungor, Science Mike, William Matthews, and Hillary McBride host a culture-shaping, genre-bending conversation about the most relevant (or bizarre) topics facing people today.
7/25/18: The Voice of God - Two guest speakers share their experience with an online prophet type of experience. It's met with skepticism but also a fair stretch of open-mindedness. I agree with the skeptic side, but it was interesting to see the exchange of ideas and this subject and experience made the different speakers feel.

The Patristics Podcast
The Writings of the Church Fathers Given to the Laity - Ambrose Andreano and Alvin Rapien examine the writings of the Church Fathers and provide commentary on the content.

The Reformed PUBcast

8/17/18 - Giving Rome the Middle Sausage - They don't hold back about their disdain of Catholicism as a religion, but do not insult Catholics in general. There's random "fun discussion". It's a bit long and loosely organized but parts of it are interesting, parts of it are casual/fun.
