Once upon a time ago,
There was no pain; it did not show.
But creeps in slowly; you do not see,
This violent beast that torments me.
It stays beneath my every thought,
Ready to beat me; it has me caught.
I’ve tried and tried to look away,
But it keeps approaching every day.
“You’re no good. You’re a waste of time”,
That’s what it says to this heart of mine.
And through it all I look for light,
For a glimmer of hope in the night.
I keep on searching, one day soon,
