The Kalahari sands
Your playground.
Horse and rider
No match for you
At full tilt.
Mid-day heat
But small inconvenience;
The secret moistures
You have found,
And cooling strength
Under expansive
Night skies.
Bushmen lie in wait,
But sound ears
And quick start
Almost always
Save the day.
But woman, really
You puzzle me
With one distressing trait.
You lay your egg
And cover it
With warming sands,
Uncaring if
Some hostile hands
Will wrench it
From its womb;
Will suck its yoke;
As if to you
All motherhood’s a joke.
You leave it,
Doing still what’s
Only best for you.
Confirming God’s assessment
From the start;
You have no heart.
Omitted by
Omniscience
From earliest Day
That you might play. (Job 39:13-18)
