Matthew 24: Two major signs believers should look for...Part 1 of 2

Originally written 22nd March 2008:

After my weekly fast and day of rest, my husband and I were reading and discussing Eschatology as we were comparing readings from the Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern/New King James in book of Matthew Chapter 24 v 29-31. God then opened my eyes to what would be the signs to look out for when we would be raptured. My husband saw this too...

New King James Version

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern

29 But immediately following the trouble of those times,
the sun will grow dark
the moon will stop shining
the stars will fall from the skyand the powers in heaven will be shaken *
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, all the tribes of the Land will mourn** and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with tremendous power and glory. 31 He will send out his angels with a shofar*** and they will gather together his chosen people from the four winds from one end of heaven to the other.

*Isaiah 13:10, Joel 2:10, Ezekiel 32:7, Isaiah 34:4, Haggai 2:6
**Zech 12:10-14
***Isaiah 27:13

What are the signs Jesus talks about?

1. Sign would be the sun will turn dark, moon would stop its light and stars will fall from the skies.
2. Those who will mourn for Him.Who are those who will mourn?

Zechariah 12:10-14 (New King James Version)

10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.[a] 12 And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.

When we see House of David mourning and the scales taken from their eyes about who their Messiah is...it is then that 'He will send out his angels with a shofar*** and they will gather together his chosen people from the four winds from one end of heaven to the other."

If you notice after this statement, Jesus proceeds with this

Matthew 24:32-51 (New King James Version)

The Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[a] is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

No One Knows the Day or Hour
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[b] but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour[c] your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

In the Complete Jewish Bible Version MATTHEW 24 V 32-44 is written:

Now let the fig tree teach you its lessson: when its branches begin to sprout and leaves appear, you know that summer is approaching. In the same way, when you see all these things, you are to know that the time is near, right at the door. Yes! I tell you that this people will certainly not pass away before all these things happen. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. But when that day and hour will come, no one knows-not the angels in heaven, not the Son, only the Father. For the Son of Man's coming will be just as it was in the days of Noach. Back then, before the Flood, people went on eating and drinking, taking wives and becoming wives, right up till the day Noach entered the ark: and they didn't know what was happening until the Flood came and swept them away. It will be just like that when the Son of Man comes. Then there will be two men in the filed-one will be taken and the other left behind. There will be two women grinding flour at the mill-one will be taken and the other left behind. So stay alert, because you don't know on what day your Lord will come. But you do know this: had the owner of the house known when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you too must always be ready for the Son of Man will come when you are not expecting him.
