"Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do." (Matthew 23:3 NKJV)
One of the major issues Jesus had with the religious leaders of his time was hypocrisy. They lived double lives, they had different personalities, depending on the circumstances and locations. They were unstable in character. Actually, they were bankrupt in character.
Therefore, Jesus warned his followers to be careful with them. Whatever they commanded that is in the scriptures, the people should do it, though the religious leaders will fail to do the same.
The same instruction is applicable to us today, we must not throw away a wise counsel simply because the source of such counsel has not practiced what they preached. We must commit ourselves to constant study of God's word. This will help us to identify godly counsel.
ACTION PLAN: Judge every counsel by the truth of God's word.
PRAYER: Father, grant me discernment to identify godly counsel and heed to it.
