  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How To Follow Jesus

Followers of Jesus Christ.jpg

There are many opinions about what it means to be a good Christian and sincere follower of Jesus Christ. I’ve given some of this advice myself. Love God with all your heart, move closer to him by studying the Word of God, share your thoughts with God in prayer, worship God on a regular basis, and serve God by serving others. Those are the basic tenants of the Christian faith. I’m not sure any single item on that list is more important than the others; however, serving God by serving others is at the heart of what it means to follow Jesus. The following four verses sum up the importance Jesus placed on this aspect of Christian life.

“I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.” Matthew 25:35-36 (NASB)

“Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.” Matthew 25:40 (NASB)

“Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.” Matthew 25:45 (NASB)

“Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45 (NASB)

There’s nothing ambiguous about this collection of scripture. Jesus wants us to serve God by serving others. Jesus wants his followers to adopt a true servant’s spirit. This is not something we are to do in our spare time or something we turn on and off when the opportunity presents itself – this is to be who we are – servants to those in need. If there is a need in front of us that we have the ability to resolve, we are offending Jesus if we do not act. Our mission as true followers of Jesus is to transmit our love for God to those around us; to use our Bible study and worship as fuel to help those in need; to connect fully with the Holy Spirit living inside of each and every believer to fulfill the needs of others.

That’s what it means to follow Jesus.
