  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hear "My" Cry

Dear friends, when we are tempted and desire to overcome, the best weapon is prayer. When you cannot use the sword and the shield, take to yourself the famous weapon of All-prayer. So your Savior did. Let us notice his prayer. It was lonely prayer. He withdrew even from his three best friends about a stone’s cast. Believer, especially in temptation, be much in solitary prayer. As private prayer is the key to open heaven, so is it the key to shut the gates of hell. As it is a shield to prevent, so is it the sword with which to fight against temptation. Family prayer, social prayer, prayer in the Church, will not suffice, these are very precious, but the best beaten spice will smoke in your censer in your private devotions, where no ear hears but God. Betake yourselves to solitude if you would overcome.

Charles Spurgeon

Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.

From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
when my heart is overwhelmed;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 61:1-2

(Some of my thoughts as I read and prayed here in these verses today. I am finding the Treasury of David to be an excellent resource in my prayer life and devotions.)

1. Let my cry be heard amidst all the other voices that come before the Throne...let my heart be alert, awake to the God I am seeking - wanting, expecting, waiting for YOUR help. Make me eager for YOUR answers to my prayers.

2. end of the earth - no place is unsuitable for prayer
Charles Spurgeon

3. I pray to God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob...to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ...The I AM.
This is becoming a good habit in my life instead of running to friends or "buying" something...or taking a pill...or getting a divorce or going to a "shrink"; or even stuffing the pain into an unreachable place in my heart.
I am learning to pray from a "low" place...a place of what seems like humiliation to me sometimes...a needful place to be when God is breaking down strongholds of pride and self-sufficiency.
I'm am learning He must bring me to a teachable place if He is to lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
I am finding this lonely place of prayer, which I dreaded, to be most satisfying and fruitful in Him.
