Genesis 1:1 - Genesis 1:8

Hello! Welcome to my post! This covers Genesis 1:1 through Genesis 1:8 which covers part of the First Story of Creation.

First, there will be the Testament, section, book, then the part. In bold you'll find the Chapter that I am Reading from. Then you'll find the Story that I am on.

I will quote the Bible and then you will see my comments about that section. Then I will ask a question as a bullet. Feel free to post a comment with your answers to these questions! Just make sure to list the question first. I'd love to know your view on my questions as well as other things you'd like to add! After the bullet I will post my own answer to the question.

Chapter 1
First Story of Creation

"In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss while a mighty wind swept over the waters." (1 - 2)

Imagine a world without a form. Imagine a cold, dark, windy world. Think of how horrible that would be! :(

  • If you were God, what would you have done to this dark, windy, formless wasteland? Would it have even been worth your time?
One thing to remember is that this place set before God was a wasteland. God could do whatever He wanted with this place! I'm not sure if I would have even taken the time to develop this wasteland into something. I may have given up. Or maybe I would have fixed it just for my entertainment, though it may not have developed into something so amazing as the earth we live on today. Kudos, God!

"Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." Thus evening came, and morning followed---the first day." (3 - 5)

 I really like how the whole "light" and "dark" aspects are played here. It says God saw how good the light was. It then goes on to say how God then separated the light from the darkness which can symbolize God separating Heaven (light) from Hell (darkness).

"Then God said, "Let there be a dome in the middle of waters, to separate one body of water from the other." And so it happened: God made the dome, and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it. God called the dome "the sky." Evening came, and morning followed---the second day." (6 - 8)

It's strange to think of the sky as being water. But, I guess one could translate this into meaning water in the clouds and other moisture just hangin' up there!

I look forward to any comments you may have!
