  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christian Expectations

Christians, if they read their Bible, know what it means to follow Christ. We will be hated because of Him. (Luke 21:17) You can see it everywhere…someone speaks out on a controversial Biblical principal, and they are often metaphorically torn to shreds. We are living in a world that does not agree with us, so we can expect to encounter opposition.

What we should not have to expect is for follow Christians to tear each other down because they interpret scripture differently. All Christian denominations should respect each other, and let the Holy Spirit do His job. I am not talking about blatant sin…the Bible has specific guidelines to deal with that. It’s just not our job to judge each other. We are to love one another (John 13:35) so that the world will know we are set apart. Right now, we don’t always look “set apart.”

My dear old Grandpappy always said, “Let the Bible interpret the Bible.” When it comes to the Christian walk, Paul told us to work out our own salvation (Phil.2:12) and there is no way we can do that if we don’t get into the Bible ourselves. Going to church is great…but that’s not enough to stand strong in the world in which we live today. Study the written word of God until you start to understand what God is saying to you. Memorize scripture. Get it in your heart and soul. Quit looking around to see who you can judge. Judge yourself.
