As anyone who has spent time in the gym and particularly on a weight bench knows, in order to maximize your workout you need a spotter. The purpose of the spotter is to:
a) Monitor your individual lifts to make sure the weight you’re under doesn’t come crashing down on you.
b) Occasionally step in and lift the weight up off of you if you absolutely can’t lift it.
Spotter’s are there for your safety while at the same time, they assure that you will get the maximum from your workout. A good spotter will also encourage you as you struggle under your heavy weight by telling you “You can do it” or “come on…PUSH IT”. And as you give your last ounce of force to the bar, the spotter will step in and something miraculous happens. All the spotter needs to do is put two finders under the bar and it miraculously rises up off your chest! I have no idea how I, as the one lying on the bench can put everything I have into lifting the bar off my chest and all the spotter has to do is place two fingers under the bar and the bar rises but it does. And thank God it does!
Sometimes as Christian’s we can find ourselves on a perpetual “weight bench” continually trying to lift problem after problem off our chest. Ahh, but never fear! Jesus is in the gym with you! Ask Him to be your spotter. There is no better spotter than Jesus. He knows how much you can lift (even if you don’t), He will be there to encourage you and show you how to maximize your workout and if needed, He will step in and lift the bar off your chest if you can’t.
Our responsibility is to trust Him and to know that when we leave life’s gym, we will be fit enough to go out and allow Him to work through us to help spot someone else who may be under life’s barbell.
Scripture Reference:
1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. NKJV
