Alternate RPG Segment

***This is the segment I ended up using instead of the previous. It's more to the point and introductory to the character without too much fluff. Granted, I absolutely love long posts and had actually planned to put the two together but since the site we're writing this on has a 600 word limit, I just used this piece.

Kes sprawled out onto the ground with a thud. Quickly, she rolled over and sat up, glaring in the direction of the doorway she had just been unceremoniously thrown from. The owner of the inn was glowering back, and he was easily more formidable looking. “Now get lost before I call the police,” he informed her gruffly before slamming the door shut. Kes gave an indignant snort and got to her feet, stumbling a bit in her watered down intoxication, and then trudged down the street.

It was growing darker now and the air possessed a stiff chill. She shivered a bit and buried her hands down inside the pockets of her coat, fingering the coins she had placed there earlier. Trying to blink away the effects of an oncoming hangover, she let out a slow whistle when the ground in front of her suddenly did a very good impression of a cartwheel and she accidentally knocked into someone. She tripped, thrown to the side by the collision, and landed hard in the dirt with a curse. The passerby expressed their sentiments as well, scowling down at her before moving on.

After lying on the ground for a moment, waiting for the sudden dizziness to pass, she slowly moved to get up, but stopped abruptly as a burning sensation coursed through her palms when they met with the ground. With a hiss of pain she sat back down on the ground in a very ungraceful movement and stared down at her hands. Even in the darkness she could make out the bloody scrapes that tore their way down the palms of her hands and over the edge of one of her wrists.

A dim, partially amused smile played around the corners of her mouth as she watched the skin try to heal itself, but it couldn’t quite finish the process from the intrusion of the dirt and gravel that had been ground into her palms. She traced a finger through the trail of blood that was running down through the cracks of her hand, removing some of the dirt from its path. With bright eyes she watched as the abrasion opened further with irritation from being touched, slowly oozing more blood, and then tried once again to close itself. To her muddled and nearly far gone mind, the sight was mesmerizing.

***Small note: Kes has the ability to heal; though, as you may have (or have not) noticed, it doesn't quite work with debris embedded in the wound...which could present a problem in the future.
