A People Set Apart

Deut 14:1-21

Adonai calls His people a "peculiar" people. He calls us to be set apart, to be distinctive in our nature or character from others. The Israelites, with all their foods they did not eat and activities they did not (at least those who were walking with God in obedience) partake of stood out like sore thumbs among all the other nations. That's what God wanted though. A people who would sell out to HIM. Walk in HIS ways then HE would bless them and cause them to rise above all the other nations and be known as a people whose God fights for them. They were not a perfect people but when they put their faith and trust in Him and to the best of their understanding followed Him, God responded like any proud father would.

God had reasons for all that He told them. He did not exclude the "foreigner" among them either. The only part of this part of the scripture portion where the "foreigner" was allowed to eat something that the Isralie was not was the "road kill" (v 21) if they wanted it. Other than that, they had the same instructions.

I'm not telling anyone what they should and should not eat, ,however, there is a reason why God said certain critters were not "food". There are lots of diseases that are carried by certain animals that are not cooked away. There are also certain jobs of certain creaturs that we don't want what they are ingesting in their bodies to become part of our bodies. Again, disease, etc.. Do your own research on the animals that God said was not food.

In 1 Pet 2:9-10 Peter said, 9 "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy".

Whatever you choose to do don't do it for the sole purpose of standing out in the crowd, but because you are convinced that God has called you to do it and you want to walk in obedience to Him.
