Notes: Revelation 19:7 To Revelation 20:4-6

*Revelation 19:7 to 20:3 / *Rev. 19:7 -

(Re: The rapture)

Revelation 19 refers to Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, which is when other passages show that He will rapture (gather together) the Church (Matthew 24:30-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17).

Revelation 19:7 to 20:3 will occur immediately after the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24 (Matthew 24:29-31). At Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, before He goes to war against all of the armies of the world (Revelation 19:11-21), He will rapture (gather together) the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:1, Matthew 24:30-31), judge the Church (Psalms 50:3-5, cf. Mark 13:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10, Luke 12:45-48, Matthew 25:14-30), and then marry the obedient part of the Church (Revelation 19:7-8, Matthew 25:1-13).

~

(Marriage)

In Revelation 19:7 the Church is in the first heaven, the sky, for the wedding. And it got there at the post-tribulation rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:17; 2 Thessalonians 2:1, Matthew 24:29-31).

(See also Matthew 25:1-13 and 2 Corinthians 12:2(space) above)

~

(Re: But are not God's throne, the four beasts, and the 24 elders all in the third heaven?)

They can all still be in the third heaven while the marriage takes place in the first heaven (the sky).

~

(Re: Judgment of the unsaved)

Revelation 19:11-21 refers only to a temporal judgment which will occur when Jesus Christ Himself slays only some of the non-Christians who will still be alive at His future, Second Coming; just as when God slew people in Noah's Flood, that was only a temporal judgment of only the people who were alive at the time of the Flood (Luke 17:26-37). The eternal judgment of non-Christians (of all times) will not occur until they are all physically resurrected at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15), which will not occur until some 1,000 years after Jesus' Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:15).

~

(Re: Resurrection)

The Second-Coming resurrected Church (1 Corinthians 15:21-23,52; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16) is mentioned in Revelation 20:4-6, just as the Second-Coming married Church is mentioned in Revelation 19:7.

(See sections 4-5 of Revelation 20:4 below)

~

(Re: Singular bride means that there are no aliens?)

See Ephesians 5:22 above

--

*Revelation 19:8 / *Rev. 19:8 -

Here the bridal clothes are symbolic of the righteousness of the saints (Revelation 19:8b) in the general sense of all obedient Christians of all times. They already have righteousness now through their faith and righteous works in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:22; 1 John 3:7, James 2:24,26, John 15:2-6).

--

*Revelation 19:9 / *Rev. 19:9 -

(*Supper)

The marriage supper (Revelation 19:9) will not have started by the time of Revelation 19, which will not begin until after the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24 (cf. Matthew 24:29-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8). For regarding the Church, the marriage supper will be a literal feast in the earthly Jerusalem after the resurrection and marriage of the Church (of all times) at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Isaiah 25:6-9; 1 Corinthians 15:54, Revelation 19:7 to 20:6; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23,51-54). While the Church will enjoy a feast "of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined" (Isaiah 25:6), the birds will feast on the corpses of the world's armies defeated by Jesus Himself at His Second Coming (Revelation 19:17-21).

(See also Matthew 25:1-13 above)

--

*Revelation 19:10b / *Rev. 19:10b -

This means that the spirit of prophecy is to testify about Jesus Christ (Acts 26:22-23, Luke 24:44-47).

Just as what Acts 26:22-23 and Luke 24:44-47 are referring to is almost entirely literal, so...

(See the "Literal" section of Revelation chapters 6 to 22 (Overview) above)

--

*Revelation 19:11,14 / *Rev. 19:11 -

The Second-Coming horses in Revelation 19:11,14 can be literal, spiritual horses, like the ones in 2 Kings 6:17.

~

(Heaven opened)

Revelation 19:11 is not referring to the third heaven of Revelation 19:1-4, but to the first heaven, the atmosphere/sky. It will be "opened" in the sense that the clouds in the sky (of Matthew 24:30) will part to reveal the descending Jesus Christ to the sight of the people on the earth (Revelation 19:11-21).

(See also 2 Corinthians 12:2(space) above)

--

*Revelation 19:13a / *Rev. 19:13a -

(Re: Means that Isaiah 63:1-6 had happened sometime before this?)

No, for Isaiah 63:3 will not occur until Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming in Revelation 19:15-21. So Revelation 19:13a could refer to His own blood, like how Christians' figurative robes are dipped in His blood (Revelation 7:14) by their faith in His suffering and death for their sins during His Passion (Romans 3:25-26). Also, Isaiah 63:3 refers not to a dipping in blood, but only to a sprinkling with blood. Also, in Revelation 19:13a the original Greek word (bapto: G0911) translated as "dipped" means the same as baptism. And Jesus referred to His own bloody death as a baptism (Luke 12:50, Mark 10:38-39), just as Christians are baptized (by water immersion) into His death (Romans 6:3).

(See also Mark 16:16 above)

--

*Revelation 19:14 / *Rev. 19:14 -

The original Greek word (ouranos: G3772) translated as "heaven" can refer to the "sky" (Matthew 16:2-3, Luke 12:56), which will be the location of the literal clouds and air of 1 Thessalonians 4:17. Revelation 19:14 refers to the future point in time when the already physically-resurrected (if dead) or changed (if alive) (1 Corinthians 15:21-23,51-53) and married obedient part of the Church (Revelation 19:7-8) of all times will descend with Jesus Christ from the sky (the first heaven), where the Church will have been raptured to hold a meeting in the air with Jesus at His Second Coming (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17).

(See "At that meeting" under Matthew 24:31 above. Also, see 2 Corinthians 12:2(space) above)

~

(Horses)

See Revelation 19:11 above.

--

*Revelation 19:15 / *Rev. 19:15 -

(*Sword)

The "sword" (not a sword "tongue") in Revelation 1:16 and Revelation 19:15,21 can be a literal, spiritual sword, like the one in Genesis 3:24. And at the same time, it can also be symbolic of the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17), just as, for example, the fruitless fig tree which Jesus Christ cursed in Matthew 21:19 was a literal tree, which at the same time symbolized fruitless, unbelieving, Old Covenant Israel in Matthew 21:43.

~

(Re: What would a literal, spiritual sword mean?)

That it is not merely symbolic of something else, and that it is not a metal sword like men normally used.

~

(Re: Why would God dress Jesus' physical body up with a spiritual sword coming out of His mouth?)

To slay His enemies with at His Second Coming (Revelation 19:15,21).

~

(Re: We are judged by whether or not we believe the words of Jesus)

That's right (John 12:48). And many non-Christians will be (temporally) judged at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:11), by being slain by the literal, spiritual sword which will emanate from His mouth (Revelation 19:15,21, Revelation 1:16).

~

(Wrath)

Revelation 19:15 does not require that the entire future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24 will be God's wrath. For Revelation 19:15 refers only to Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, which will not happen until immediately after the Tribulation (Matthew 24:29-31).

(Judgment)

See the "Judgment of the unsaved" section of Revelation 19:7 above.

~

(All)

In Revelation 19:18 the original Greek word (pas: G3956) translated as "all" does not have to mean absolutely all, but can mean "all manner of" (Acts 10:12). Revelation 19:18 means that all manner of non-Christians alive at that time, "both free and bond, both small and great", will be slain by Jesus Christ Himself at His Second Coming. It does not mean that absolutely all people of all times will be slain by Jesus at the Second Coming, nor does it mean that absolutely all people who will still be alive at the Second Coming will be slain by Jesus at that time. For obedient Christians who will still be alive at that time will not be slain by Him (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17), but will be changed into immortal physical bodies (1 Corinthians 15:51-53).

And not even all non-Christians who will still be alive at the Second Coming will be slain by Jesus Christ at that time.

(See paragraph 3 of Luke 17:26 above)

*Revelation 19:19-21 / *Rev. 19:19 -

(Re: Same as Gog/Magog?)

No, for Revelation 19:19-21 on the one hand, and Revelation 20:7-9 and Ezekiel chapters 38-39 on the other, are two different sets of events, separated by over 1,000 years (Revelation 19:19 to 20:9). After the first set of events, Satan will be bound in the Bottomless Pit for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-3), whereas after the second set of events, he will be cast into the lake of fire to suffer forever (Revelation 20:10).

Revelation 19:19-21 is the battle at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, which Zechariah 14:2-5 shows will occur at Jerusalem. After that battle will occur Jesus' physical reign on the earth (Zechariah 14:9-21) with the physically resurrected Church for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:4-6, Revelation 5:10, Revelation 2:26-29), a time period commonly called the Millennium. It will not be until after the Millennium that the Gog/Magog rebellion will occur (Revelation 20:7-9, Ezekiel chapters 38-39).

(Re: Birds referred to in both passages)

See Ezekiel 39:17 above.

~

(Re: Is Revelation 19:19 when the beast, the False Prophet, and the resurrected kings of the earth will attack heaven?)

No, Revelation 19:19 is when the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of Revelation's "beast"), his False Prophet, and the still-living (that is, the not yet dead) kings of the earth will have gathered together on the earth to wage war against YHWH God when He comes to the earth.

Revelation 19:19 is best understood within the context of Revelation 16.

(See Revelation 16(space) above)

--

*Revelation 19:20 / *Rev. 19:20 -

The throwing of the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of Revelation's "beast") and his False Prophet into the lake of fire at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:20), which will occur over 1,000 years before the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:7-15), could be done as a clear sign to everyone that the Antichrist and his False Prophet will never be allowed to rise up and work evil on the earth again, unlike Satan, who will only be bound in the Bottomless Pit by an angel at Jesus' Second Coming (Revelation 20:1-3), and then later allowed to rise up and work evil on the earth again after the Millennium (Revelation 20:7-10).

~

The Antichrist and his False Prophet, who will be the two individuals cast into the lake of fire at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:20), are not immortals, but will be two mortal men who will have been empowered by Satan to rule the world and work amazing miracles (2 Thessalonians 2:9, Revelation 13:4-18, Revelation 19:20). Their being cast into the lake of fire will prove their mortality, for the lake of fire is the second death (Revelation 21:8b), the second, eternal mortality, which even Satan and his fallen angels will eventually suffer (Revelation 20:10, Matthew 25:41).

But the second death is not just a temporary suffering, such as a painful death and then unconsciousness or annihilation. Instead, the lake of fire is a continual suffering in fire and brimstone forever (Revelation 20:10,15, Revelation 14:10-11, Matthew 25:41,46, Mark 9:45-46).

(See also Matthew 25:41 above)

~

Just as the Church will be judged at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Psalms 50:3-5, cf. Mark 13:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10, Luke 12:45-48, Matthew 25:19-30), so could the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of Revelation's "beast") and his False Prophet (also an individual man) be judged by Jesus at that time, before they are cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20). The Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15), which will not occur until over 1,000 years later (Revelation 20:4-15), will be for all people (of all times) not judged at Jesus' Second Coming.

(See also section 2 of Revelation 20:11 below. And see Revelation 20:15 below)

--

*Revelation 19:21 / *Rev. 19:21 -

This refers to Jesus Christ Himself at His Second Coming slaying the remnant of the armies of the world gathered to make war against YHWH God (Revelation 16:14, Revelation 19:19). Some non-Christians will not be in those armies, but will be elsewhere in the world doing harmless things like sleeping in bed (Luke 17:34), grinding grain (Luke 17:35), or working in their farm fields (Luke 17:36). Some of these non-Christians will be left alive by Jesus at His Second Coming (Matthew 24:39b-40, Zechariah 14:16-19).

(See paragraph 3 of Luke 17:26 above)

See Revelation 19:15 above.

*Revelation 20:1-3 / *Rev. 20:1 -

The binding of Satan by an angel in Revelation 20:1-3, at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:3), will involve Satan being bound with a literal, spiritual chain; just as the Bottomless Pit, which at that time Satan will be cast down into and locked within, is a literal, spiritual place.

(See Job 33:22 above)

--

*Revelation 20:4-6 / *Rev. 20:4 -

(Re: The *1st resurrection) / (*First resurrection) / (Literal)

Whereas there is the non-physical resurrection of initial salvation (e.g. Ephesians 2:5-6), the "first resurrection" in Revelation 20:4-6 will be physical (cf. Romans 8:23). For Revelation 20:5 says: "the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished", meaning that the "first resurrection" will be the same, physical type of resurrection as will occur sometime after the still-future 1,000 years (Revelation 20:7-15). For not every dead person is going to be non-physically resurrected in the sense of becoming saved (Revelation 20:15), and Revelation 20:5 means that the rest of the dead (i.e. all of the non-Christian dead of all times) will be resurrected in the same manner that Christians will be resurrected in Revelation 20:4-6, but the rest of the dead will not be resurrected until sometime after the still-future 1,000 years.

Also, the "first resurrection" in Revelation 20:4-6 will be physical because it will not occur until Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6). And the resurrection of the Church which will occur at that time will be a physical resurrection, just as Jesus' resurrection on the third day after His death was a physical resurrection (Luke 24:39,46; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23,52-58, Philippians 3:20-21, Romans 8:23-25; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).

(See Luke 24:39 above)

~

(Re: Should no Christian fear the second death?)

It is only those Christians who overcome to the end who will not experience the second death (Revelation 2:11).

(See Revelation 3:5 above)

~

(Thrones)

In Revelation 20:4, "I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them" refers to the still-future Millennium on the earth (Revelation 20:4-6, Revelation 5:10), when, for example, the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ will sit on twelve thrones, "judging" the twelve tribes of Israel (Matthew 19:28, Luke 22:30), in the sense of ongoing rule, like how the "judges" ruled Israel in the book of Judges in the Old Testament.

~

(Re: Only beheaded people resurrected?)

Revelation 20:4-6 does not mean that only those Christians who will be beheaded by the future Antichrist will be resurrected in the "first resurrection" and reign on the earth with Jesus Christ during the still-future Millennium. For the "first resurrection" will be the physical resurrection of all Christians (of all times) at Jesus' future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23,52; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16). And every obedient Christian (of all times) will reign on the earth with Jesus during the Millennium (Revelation 2:26-29, Revelation 5:10).

~

(Re: Resurrection after the Second Coming?)

Revelation 20:4-6 does not mean that the "first resurrection" will happen after Revelation 19:7 to 20:3. For just as the gathering together (rapture) of the Church (of all times) at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Matthew 24:30-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) will happen right before Revelation 19:7 to 20:3, so will the "first resurrection". For the resurrection of the Church (of all times) at Jesus' Second Coming (1 Corinthians 15:21-23,52) will immediately precede the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:15-16).

Revelation 20:4-6 simply means that the obedient part of the Church (of all times), which by that time will have already been physically resurrected, gathered together, and married to Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:7), will then live and reign with Jesus on the earth during the still-future Millennium. In Revelation 20:4 the original Greek word (zao: G2198) translated as "and they lived" means just that. It does not mean "and they resurrected" at the time of Revelation 20:4-6. After those resurrected in the "first resurrection" have lived through the Millennium and subsequent events (Revelation 20:7-10), everyone else who has ever died will be physically resurrected at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).

~

(Re: "Souls" = dead people?)

See Genesis 46:15 above.

~

(Re: "Souls" resurrected means a non-physical resurrection?)

"Souls" in the Bible can simply refer to people, including their bodies (Acts 27:37, Genesis 46:15). Also, the "souls", or people, in Revelation 20:4-6 include those people who will be physically resurrected sometime after having been beheaded by the future Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of Revelation's "beast") because they were Biblical Christians (Revelation 20:4).

(See also the "After the Second Coming" section of Revelation 20:4 below)

~

(Re: Are those beheaded not beheaded during the future Tribulation? --
"AND I saw those beheaded for the Word of God
AND I saw those beheaded for Jesus
AND I saw those that did not take the mark")

Where are you getting those "I saw's"? (They are not in the original Greek.)

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them and the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Why cannot Revelation 20:4 be referring to the same, still-future Christian martyrs as in Revelation 13:7-10, Revelation 14:12-13, and Matthew 24:9-13?

~

(Re: The *Millennium)

The Millennium will begin after Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6, Zechariah 14:3-21), when He will reign physically on the earth with the physically resurrected Church (of all times) for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:4-6, Revelation 5:10, Revelation 2:26-29, Psalms 2, Psalms 66:3-4). During the Millennium, Jesus will place obedient Christians over cities (Luke 19:17-19) and nations (Revelation 2:26-29) and political divisions within nations (Matthew 19:28, Luke 22:30), while Jesus will be King of kings (Revelation 19:16) over the entire earth (Zechariah 14:9, Psalms 72:8-11), reigning in the earthly Jerusalem (Micah 4:1-8,13, Zechariah 14:8-21).

Isaiah 19 and Isaiah 11:6-16 are also examples of Millennial scriptures.

~

(Re: *On the earth)

Jesus Christ will physically reign on the earth during the still-future 1,000 years of Revelation 20:2-6. For the 1,000 years of Revelation 20:2-6, a time period commonly called the Millennium, will not begin until after Jesus' future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6), when He will physically land on the earth and rule it from Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:4-21). And because Jesus will reign physically on the earth during the Millennium, so will the physically resurrected Church. For the physically resurrected Church (of all times) will reign with Jesus during the Millennium (Revelation 20:4-6). And so in Revelation 5:10 the reference to the Church reigning in the future "on the earth" includes the Millennium. Also, in Revelation 2:26-29 the reigning of the Church physically over the nations can refer to the Millennium. There is no reason to exclude the Millennium from Revelation 5:10 or Revelation 2:26-29, just as there is no reason to exclude the earth from the Millennium in Revelation 20:4-6.

Also, the Church will reign forever on the future, New Earth, as in a new surface for the earth. For the Church will reign forever in the literal city of New Jerusalem (Revelation 22:5, Revelation 21:10 to 22:5), which will descend from heaven to the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3, Revelation 21:10) sometime after the future Millennium and subsequent events (Revelation 20:7 to 21:3).

(See also Zechariah 14(space) above)

(Re: There was a 1,000-year empire. Its capital had seven hills: Revelation 17:9)

Note that the Bible makes no connection between the 1,000-year empire in Revelation 20:4-6 and Revelation's symbolic (and worldwide) "Babylon" in chapters 17-18. For Revelation's "Babylon" will be destroyed right before Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Revelation 19:2 to 20:3), whereas the 1,000-year empire will not begin until after His Second Coming (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6).

Regarding Revelation 17:9, see that verse above. Also, see Revelation chapters 17-18 above.
