I made a new friend in the comments section of my first blog entry here. :ebil: Hope to meet some new people with this one. Please comment and criticize until your heart is content.

Today's entry is Christian Heroes of the Last 500 Years. The images are from my work-in-progress web project, IMDEX.org, which is an image-based encyclopedia.

Both Catholic and Protestant are included. I myself am a Protestant but appreciate Catholicism.

Did you know...King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden, the champion of Protestantism in the Thirty Years' War, is better known in English as Gustavus Adolphus. He was succeeded by his only child, Christina, who oddly enough became a Catholic later in life.

October 31st, 2017 was the 500th anniversary of the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg. Many other 500th anniversaries are approaching in the historic life of Luther, and in Protestant history in general.

On the personal front, I visited St. Augustine, Florida last week. Pat Croce has a Pirate Museum there (next to the fort) which is well done, although not that many square feet.

The walk up the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse on Anastasia Island is rewarding.

I would also recommend Anastasia Books (76B San Marco Ave). The lady who runs it is personable and has an outstanding collection of history books. It is much better than Second Read Books (51D Cordova St), which is too expensive for what they have. Anastasia Books is asking less for quality vintage books, some over 100 years old.
