How do you know gravity exists?
I heard that we know it exists because Newton got hit on the head with an apple. How do you know gravity exists?

"General relativity is a metric theory of gravitation. At its core are Einstein's equations, which describe the relation between the geometry of a four-dimensional, pseudo-Riemannian manifold representing spacetime, and the energy–momentum contained in that spacetime.[33] Phenomena that in classical mechanics are ascribed to the action of the force of gravity (such as free-fall, orbital motion, and spacecraft trajectories), correspond to inertial motion within a curved geometry of spacetime in general relativity; there is no gravitational force deflecting objects from their natural, straight paths. Instead, gravity corresponds to changes in the properties of space and time, which in turn changes the straightest-possible paths that objects will naturally follow."
Yeah, what @FrumiousBandersnatch said.We have observational and empirical evidence that objects attract each other with a force that varies with their mass and is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. We call this attractive force gravity. We say it exists because the universe we observe behaves in way consistent with such a force existing. What causes it is another matter
BINGO! That's the answer I was looking for.We have observational and empirical evidence that objects attract each other with a force that varies with their mass and is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. We call this attractive force gravity. We say it exists because the universe we observe behaves in way consistent with such a force existing. What causes it is another matter
NopeBINGO! That's the answer I was looking for.
We know gravity exists, because we can see the effects of it.
Does anyone disagree?
What's only the first step? That is only the first step.
Faith circumvents all that. From the observed facts, a hypothesis must be derived that explains the observations. Then, that hypothesis must make predictions, and those predictions must validate the theory.
