Yes, but I can see that he still had a chance. At least, there was a way of assessing the situation and seeing a possible path to a contested convention. We'll probably never know what, exactly, accounts for Cruz' loss in a state where he was once expected to do well, but some of it may relate to the fact that his own "aces in the hole" (such as the Fiorina thing) didn't turn out to be particularly helpful while Trump, who is often thought of as willing to go it alone without depending on any helpers, countered with endorsements (and very active ones) from Coach Knight and Coach Holtz, along with a backhanded endorsement from Gov. Pence.
