Plugged In is an app my family uses quite often to help discern which movies or television is appropriate to watch. My family is large and extremely busy so it's difficult for my parents to keep up on what is playing, particularly in the theatres. My parents have come to trust plugged In to give good reviews of the movies (basically they just report the facts)

http://www.pluggedin.ca
Thanks for that app - forewarned is forearmed.

Not really, usually what happens is when I point out something some posters don't seem to have considered in the position they hold and when they realize they can't refute it, some of them decide it's easier to attack the poster instead of the post. And when I point that out they usually fall back on the "You MADE me attack you!!" argument. After that fails (let's face it this isn't my first rodeo on CF) they sometimes draw their "CLOAK OF RIGHTEOUSNESS" around themselves and proclaim loudly "I will no longer engage in this discussion because you insist on not bowing to my obviously greater spiritual wisdom!" usually followed by a good flounce. A couple of days after the thread has died down most of them will pop back in and claim they have "Achieved a major victory in their defense of the Gospel and driven the "unrighteous" from this thread!!" like I said, not my first rodeo. So were we going to stop discussing me and my "support of all things vulgar" or my real position: (see below):
Still think it's your manner ... but whatever floats your boat.

What I've supported is in this thread is people having first amendment rights. Always has been And a right isn't really a right unless the people you disagree with are free to ignore what you want them to do. I could explain how their being able to watch what they want to watch (without your approval) is the same as your having the freedom to tell them of your disapproval of it. I could even try and explain how it's all tied into you being free to worship how you want, free from them dictating how you should, but I suspect most of this was covered in your history classes while you were growing up.
tulc(is sipping some excellent coffee right now!)
So the right to watch morally offensive material on tv DOES protect religious freedom! So glad about that.

I'm not sure what your problem is. It is difficult to argue that there is not a significant difference between the views of liberal Christians and those often called evangelical, conservative or Biblical Christians. The latter view is expressed well by Christian Spotlight on Entertainment.

the implication is that your "version" of Christianity is superior and more "bible based"...disparaging anyone who believes differently than you do...this is a TOS violation.

Still no posts that actually say what you claimed were the positions of those who believed differently from you? You could just admit you misspoke. There's no shame in being wrong.

It's one part of it yeah. :)

So glad about that.
Really? Then why do you want to curtail that right?

The game playing again tulc? Once ... it could be the other guy; twice ... probably not the other guy; three times ... it's not the other guy.

That would be because I think you're pulling taffy.

BTW, I have been amused by the irony of our exchange since you created a strawman way back in post 143, and have been repeatedly insisting I demonstrate something I did not say. Go read it again and you will have a little chuckle.

It may interest you to know that Biblical Christians do not always agree with each other. A Biblical Christian is one who bases his arguments on the infallibility, literal inspiration and supreme authority of all Scripture. While this does not always lead to consensus it demands that Scriptural evidence be the sole authority for any issue.

I have not denied any poster is a Christian ... that is a violation of TOS. Do I think I am right and you are wrong ... most emphatically yes! Why would a person choose to follow any form of Christianity they did not think to be the best & right way.

Ya know...us "liberals" have much the same POV on the bible...however, we do understand that it's not a science text. And...last I checked, taking the bible "literally" was NOT a condition of salvation...so...when it comes to that sort of attitude...you can leave it at the door. For those of us who have chosen to go deeper in the study of Scripture, including the historical context, it has completely changed me and my faith...for the better. "Bible Christians" have no understanding of historical context, and without that, the bible is pretty much useless...because there is very little that can be taken at total face value.

I think our two posts have pretty much shown the difference that exists ... but this thread is not about how to best understand the Bible so I'll leave it there ... with your disparaging view of my beliefs.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read on this forum and that says a lot. Talk about a generalization

Ahhh! Those two clues did help: you don't understand what a "strawman" is. Thanks!

I'm not talking about what we as individuals should do (my wife and I have already blocked the channel, removed it from our channel list). I'm talking about the Christian community voicing its abhorence of this filth, en masse, with thousands of complaints wherever this "Comedy Central" is available. I'm talking about boycotting those who provide commercial support. To do anything less is to roll over and play dead.

If you pay for cable and that is in your package you are supporting them, even if the channel is blocked.

A strawman is when you try to pretend I said something I did not say and proceed to base your arguments on that. Hope that helps.

I like this one and now seems about the right time to use it

So you DO (sort of) understand it! I'm surprised then that you created a strawman about the people who've disagreed with you in this thread and then claimed I created one by asking you to post evidence to support your contention.

I like this one and now seems about the right time to use it
I like this one (a gif rather then a smilie):

We have cable. We stumbled across a channel known as Comedy Central. It featured cartoon characters using the must vugar, profane, disgusting language I have ever heard. Every filthy word you can think of was used, including insults concerning God, Jesus. Join with me in contacting the Federal Communications Commission concerning Comedy Central and any others where outrageous profanity is broadcast.

https://www.fcc.gov/

I'm on the phone locally for the past hour and in the morning I will be on the phone to the Executive Offices of my cable provider. You can do the same if Comedy Central and others are doing this in your area.

Be blessed!!

Well if you're against what is on that channel you can just block it. Or cancel cable. That would send a much bigger message than just writing a letter than will get tossed.

I'm already receiving responses to my "letters." The marketing department of the cable company is involved, along with local TV, and federal and state legislators. Facebook will feature the effort. The next step is to organize a boycott of all the commercial products that support this evil.

Are they actually for real responses or are they those canned one everybody who writes a letter gets?
Sure does seem like you're spending a huge amount of energy on this cartoon.

What show is it that got your dander up so much?

instead of raising 18 shades of hades...just turn the darn thing OFF!!!! Why do you want to control what everyone else watches? What you may find offensive, other people may not. Let everyone decide for themselves. Why do you think you've been divinely appointed arbiter of people's TV habits?

Again, there's a button on your remote...usually has "POWER" on it or somewhere near it. Press it. Problem solved!
