...keep him in restricted chaplaincy but allow pro-life apostolate on case-by-case basis

Vatican: “Father Pavone is not now nor has ever been suspended”

That’s the statement being put out by Priests for Life:
We are happy to announce that the Vatican has upheld Father Frank Pavone’s appeal and has declared that Father Pavone is not now nor has ever been suspended. Father Pavone remains a priest in good standing all over the world.
We were confident all along that a just decision would be made by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Clergy. While we fully agree that Bishop Zurek has rightful authority over the priests of his diocese, we also see the urgent need for Father Pavone to be allowed to conduct his priestly ministry outside the diocese of Amarillo for the good of the pro-life movement.
However, last week, Bishop Zurek had this to say:

A little ambiguous. Why doesn't the Vatican ever speak in clear and unambiguous language. Does the Vatican intend on the language of ambiguity to appease all sides ?
Drives me nuts. It sounds like waffling to me. The RCC has too much red tape & religious politicos.

I agree, it is starting to seem as if they can't make a clear and concise ruling on anything. I don't even care if I agree, but I would like to know where they stand on a particular issue. It often comes across as lawyer-speak.

It is legalese & the Church wonders why people see it as cold? Some of the things that have occurred in the Church could had been corrected in short order but as I said, too much red tape & religious politicos. I am up to here with with that aspect of the Church.

Yep; I agree as well. None of them can be clear. It's all round-about double-speak.

No. His bishop is just putting up road blocks and obstacles to essentially impede or totally destroy his ministry. His so-called, 'case by case basis' is Modern Double-speak for 'I will thwart you at every angle until you give up this "pro-life ministry" of yours of which I do not approve'. Since the Vatican has ruled on Pavone's side, the bishop knows that he cannot openly oppose Rome on this issue. However, behind the scenes, he'll do all that he can to frustrate or cause the good Father to abandon his diocese or otherwise force him to be incardinated elsewhere. It's politicking 101. When Libs see a 'conservative' [read: orthodox] priest, this is what they do. Try to thwart anyway they can any success or full operation of their ministry. They know that folks will abandon their Liberal parishes and liberal works for the conservative priests and causes. Hence, any way to keep them from that which is orthodox and to keep them in the dark and remaining in Liberalism.

Read it Michie and remember when it first happened. I believe it was back at the time that there was talk about what happened with Fr. Corapi. And of course, there was talk about disobedience of priests.

At the time, if I can remember, took exception at Father Pavone's pro-life ministry and in effect "grounded him". Father Pavone obeyed the grounding, but said that he didn't do anything wrong and said he would appeal to the Vatican. Evidently he did, and the Vatican agreed that he was not suspended nor ever was suspended from the priesthood. Bishop Zucker seems to be saying the same thing and adding that Father Pavone will be allowed to continue his pro-life ministry only under his (the Bishop's) authority. No disobedience.

That's what I got out of it. Am I even close to being right?

You left the Church because of Fr Pavone and the deceit of a priest? I am just curious.

Not exactly. Ftr Pavone was a blip that made me look at the Cgurch under a finer microscope than I had previously.

I
hate to see you leave. I know one other hard-core, very devout Catholic I know become a High-Church Protestant as He couldn't accept a doctrine in Holy Tradition that weren't explicit in Scripture; i.e. the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception.

I don't know if I've left for good or for now, time will tell. I'm not quite ready to talk about the whole thing in great detail as I readily admit that I don't know the truth with certainty and I have no interest in, even accidentally, leading another person to believe or not believe something. I'm still mulling it all over (and praying about it, strange as that may seem). There is no chance that I will join some Protestant denomination. As I see it, one of Catholocism or Orthodoxy might be true (and darned if I can tell which) or no sect of Christianity as practiced today is.

I'll pray for you, nevertheless.

I appreciate that very much.

================================================
(As for me personally: I'd sooner accept that the Sedevacantists are right and join them as the 'remnant of Catholic Church' (as they say) as the most reasonable and viable path, than abandon the faith or religion of Roman Catholicism altogether. However, that's just me here, though. I'm far too stubborn and much 'in too deep' in the Faith to leave. I'm too entrenched; it's too much apart of the Truth and my own personal Weltanschauung.[/QUOTE]

I'm not saying you are wrong but it still seems to be tiptoeing around the tulips. If there was no suspension to begin with then why does the Bishop seem to be grounding him & his work on approval if he did not do anything wrong to begin with?

I realize a priest is to be obedient to the Bishop but he took it to the top & the Vatican seemed to agree with him. So what is the problem & what started all this to start with? I mean, really? There is a definite undercurrent imo.

I wish the Church would just specifically state whether they agree with and/or support Father Pavone. If they were clear and unequivocal in their decision, then there would be no wiggle room for either side to play politics. It is the ambiguity and legal parsing of words that allows either side to start playing the semantics game.

Father Pavone's deceitful tactics and occasionally outright lies were perhaps among the first things that set me on a path that eventually led me away from the Church.
Believe part of what you hear [or read] and all of what you see.

Print is so precarious. It usually depends on the opinion of the writer - as to what is being said. It reads like gossip - and probably about 5% is accurate.

All I know of Father Pavone is the garbage that he spoke on the radio (and to a lesser extent, the PFL website).
