. . . You know the tune that accompanies these lyrics: "Sabbath School is over; it's time to go to church. Goodbye; Goodbye. Be always kind and good."

BFA

P.S. Please correct me if I've gotten these lyrics wrong.

There may be different variations of it, but these were the lyrics that I learned: "Our Sabbath School is over, and we are going to church. Goodbye, goodbye. Be always kind and true."

That song brings back lots of memories. :)

Lyrics correct. and I can name that tune in 3 notes! LOL!!! We just used to sing "Our" at the beginning. I would not give up these memories for nothing.

I truly thank you, once again BFA, for this thread. Soooo many fond memories in all of these things. And each denomination does have it's own "culture" there is nothing wrong with that. Look, folks still look forward to my Mom's vegeburgers. And we still have favorite Sabbath meals and activities that are steeped decades in tradition. I am born and raised SDA, and I don't find anything offensive in this thread. There is fellowship that in this great medium you can find such a shared experience with people you have neer seen.

As Bob Hope sang, "Thanks for the memories". Great thread!

There comes a point where we begin to take ourselves far too seriously. I started this thread as a less serious place in which we can share experiences. It isn't my purpose to insult. I'd like to continue with the less serious tone that has characterized this thread up to this point.

In this thread, folks with a variety of doctrinal views -- ranging from the most historic SDA to the most progressive -- have been able to share experiences and share a wink and a nod about the subculture of SDAism. Every experience I shared has been a genuine part of my own history. It may or may not resonate with you. From the responses in this thread, I've learned that my experience is not unique. I respectfully request that we avoid turning this into yet another oppositional thread. Let's enjoy the commonality that is our shared experience. If it isn't your experience, then I certainly respect that and I trust that you'll find another thread that is more in line with where you've been.

Thanks for honoring my request.

Kind regards, the originator of this thread,
BFA

Yes; some of what I have read in this thread really brings back some great memories. I was wondering if anyone here would happen to remember that cradle roll song "Teeny, Tiny, Terrible Tongue?" I used to have an old book with that song in it, but the book got lost during a recent move. I would really love it if someone could post the words to it; or, better yet, scan me a copy of the music and email that to me. You could PM me and I'll give you my email...

See, you just talking to a bonafide "heathen". I didn't think any of those things, and didnt' care. That stuff never made any sense to me. I got my ears pierced(3times. Had to wait until I was 18, cuz My Mom said so. I promptly marched to downtown Clearlake and got them pierced at the jewelry store.), wear makeup(only when I feel like it), wear jewlery(rings, etc.) all whilst I serve on the church board. LOL!!!

Sounds like yours was a pretty open minded congregation.

. . . You've ever wondered whether a little bit of make-up is a bad thing.

BFA
. . . You've ever secretly longed to have your ears pierced, but felt really guilty for having such sinful thoughts.

BFA

. . . You've ever justified a broach being different than a necklace; or a diamond watch being different than earrings.

BFA

Being a guy I think I'd have other things to worry about if these things were going through my head. lol
