Zprexa weight gain

My doctor put me on zprexa again it seems to be the only mood stabilizer that helps. I have horrible swelling and weight gain with this medication. Anyone else have this problem and how are you dealing with this medication?

It could be that drug or the fact your leaving some other drug.


I haven't taken this drug so I can't advise on the drug.


But I thought you might consider it could be the bipolar by it's self.


FOOD is a WONDERFUL DRUG in itself. If can put you rest like a new born baby. AND IT FEELS SO GOOD!!!


Sure is better than sitting in a tizzy.


I'm glad I'm 63 because then I'm not so concerned with my weight. I DO get concerned if I am unable to sleep.


There is a good side to this drug!!! There's a drug store on just about every block.

I am on this (Zyprexa, Olanzapine) for almost 8 years.
This medicine is a nightmare for me.
I gained like 32kg from 60kg to 92kg within 1 or 2 years.
It makes me sleepy.
But this drug is the best and most expensive with FDA approval.

When I skipped this medicine for few months I go back to my normal weight...

But not advisible to skip for your own safety.

Hyperken, I know when the dr. took me off the med. I lost 40 pounds and now here we go again.

yUP #1 problem with zyprexa is the horrible weight gain. I would talk to your doctor...there may be another drug that would be equally as helpful w/o the weight side effect.

Funny thing is my doc put me on this hoping I would gain weight. He was shocked when I didn't gain a pound. Aren't drugs weird?

I guess you have to decide if it really is the only thing that truly helps and if you can live with the weight gain. But please discuss w/ your doc. There may be something else.

I have a friend for which nothing else worked and she made the diffcult decision to be balanced emotionally and "round" rather than unbalanced. I respect her fo that choice. I don't know what I would choose in the same situation. Praying for you!
