• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is it a good idea just to stop taking Zoloft? My doctor prescribed it for me and I've been taking it for a few months. She recently increased my medication to 100 mg and well, I'm tired of taking it. It doesn't help much, all it does is make me feel numb to all emotion... What will happen if I just stop taking it?

i know something about zoloft. my neighbor and my oldest son exsperianced this drug. what happened to them was doc started them out on small doses. every month going up. until finally they reached a dose that helped. docs just kept telling us to let it adjust to you, and we'll find the right dose.

i think you should listen to doc. my son took it through part of high school, then slowly was taken off. he's free of meds. my neighbor is a nurse and she still takes meds.
 hang in there.

meds can be annoying while your body adjusts. :prayer:
pray about it. make sure you tell doc all your feelings about it

NEVER go off meds cold turkey. Tell your doctor in no uncertain terms you want off your medication. If your doctor won't listen to you, find one that will.

Have a doctor wean you off your meds.

Most likely, unless you have subscribed to a behavior modification plan, you will cycle back through the depression that you experienced before.

I suggest you talk with you doctor first. You can stop taking it, but only if you have made a concerted effort to replace some behaviors in your life that promote more positive outcomes that will take the place of the what the Zoloft itself might help to do. Such as going to the gym, getting out with new friends, volunteering, changes environment, anything that gives you a more positive outlook on the life you lead.

And pray....go to a bible study group or support group once a week...anywhere you can learn from others who are going through the same thing.

QFT. It's not something that would be pleasant to quit cold turkey. and Saysimba brings up an excellent point about changing the underlying environmental and social factors reinforcing the depression.

If someone is has clinical depression going to the gym and volunteering isn't going to do a hill of beans.

People can go to the gym and volunteer and still be depressed. It's called mental illness for a reason. Would people tell a person with cancer to go to the gym to treat it?
