  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yugioh is an anime based of the Egyptian religion, which includes the teaching of sacrificing, magic and soul possesion...ect. I would suggest that you tell parents of any child who likes yugioh to not buy the tapes or dvd's such as the first season. It has graphic sexual content and violence, yugioh was not created in the first place for children. The card game is based off of the card game called 'Magic', but less complicated so a child could understand it.
i sorta agree with this but i think that thw show is fine

Yu-Gi-Oh!'s card game definitely not based off of Magic: The Gathering; there are no mana or tapping system that are chief characteristics of M:TG.

In addition, although Egypt plays an important role in the series, real Egyptian religion and magic was and still is definitely not what YGO! makes it out to be. The author (forget his name; genious though IMO) did cleverly create a unique alternative Egyptian (and thus world) history and belief by using real elements, but it is a far cry from what ancient and current Egyptian Pagans believed in, etc.

As for violence and sexual content, remember that YGO! was created by a Japanese man who lives in Japan. The Japanese culture is different from that in the US. What to us is "sexually explicity" may not be so in Japan because of traditional cultural norms. Children there act and behave differently; most of the research that I've done has shown that they are more mature than US kids at the same age on average. They don't go googly-eyed at stuff US kids do (why do they show it in their animes? probably to poke fun at the West...and to be honest, we should be embarassed on how right they are most of the time!). So don't judge their culture by our culture's norms.

I've explained soul possession when I discussed Bakura and magic in my very first post. As for sacrifices, allow me to remind folks that in the series, there is what seems to be a human sacrifice. However, it is really a martyrdom, as a sacrifice would require an unwilling participent. The character in question willingly gives her life, just as St. Justin Martyr did. I must conclude that there is no human sacrifice but one extreme and powerful case of martyrdom that should really touch everyone. Giving one's life for the Greater Good is arguably the most noble and Christ-like act of all, and it is something I personally would readily do if necessary.
