  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Youtube Copyright?

I'm confused. Apparently you're not allowed to show video games being played, with commentary because of copyright, but I don't see YouTube taking down any of the popular channels on there. Make up my mind, are you okay with it or not? If I were to start posting things like that, would my video get flagged?

I'm pretty sure you need explicit consent from the game designers and publishers in order to do it nowadays, that or make sure your videos aren't monetised.

Same thing with music on your videos, even if it's a part of the game, sometimes the game publisher doesn't own rights to that music.

Well then YouTube is pathetic at enforcing rules.

Copyright law is incredibly complex. A lot of the game developers didn't see this coming and it's largely automated now, so most people get strikes on their accounts when the developer doesn't even care about people making videos on their games.

Some developers however do not want their games published on YouTube because they believe it detracts from the play-through experience of people that do buy the game and in turn can discourage people from buying it when they've already seen the game played or played through.

I see. But some developers like it when people do that. Free advertising for them. Also, some games come equipped with a recording software suggesting they might actually WANT people to make them. Ugh copyright sucks.

Mhmm. The issue right now is that YouTube's system to check is automated unless they add exceptions I believe.

So until they fix it properly, it's probably best to not bother with gaming videos or videos with music in.
