  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:D

Sunday's church bulletin included an announcement that there are kids in Youth Group who are in need of "grandparents" to meet with them for a couple of hours every week. I thought it was awesome that the young priest is reaching out for support for some of these kids. He read my mind.

I took an opportunity after the service to talk to my daughter about the high school group and learned they do communion every week with real sacraments. I had no clue.

We also received some information about the first get-together of the new fall season. They will be going to a small town nearby, doing some hiking together, having a sleepover in a church basement and then lead the Sunday service at that church.

So there is a lot more "church" going on at Youth Group than I thought. I'd still like to see more of the kids on Sunday and at other activities through the church year, but it seems that the kids' needs are being met better than I thought.

You church family sounds great :). "Grandparents" is a lovely way to bridge the generation gap. Having had no grandparents within my own memory, I have always been grateful to the extremely wise 80-year olds that I latched onto while I was finding my feet as a Christian. They felt like real grandparents to me.

And now that the Lord has put youth work on your heart, what are you going to do about it? ;)

I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm open to ideas. It is something I should pray about, for sure.

I gave a week's vacation to lead a group at VBS this summer and am thinking about teaching Sunday School. When I work directly with children, my preference is under ten years old. I enjoy college aged people, too. I struggle with middle school and high school kids probably because I've just been through struggles with my own children. What I'd like to see is a parent support group for the teen years, but I'm certainly not qualified to lead anything like that.

God bless you, HHM.

I currently work with 11-14s and I am quite happy with this age group. I have been progressively working my way up. I struggled with the 3 - 5 year olds because they couldn't read. I am glad that we have plenty of people who connect with this age group.

As a teacher myself, children's and youth work is challenging. It is difficult for me to deal with poor behaviour because this is not something I would tolerate at school. Also, preparing lessons was something that I never give enough time to, and this is crucial with younger children, especially if some are prone to restlessness.

By the time they are 11+, they are generally opting into church rather than being forced to go. I can do minimal presentation because relational youthwork really kicks in with this age group.
