If you were walking down a dark street at night in the rough part of Chicago and you saw ten young men walking towards you, would you feel more comfortable if you knew that they had just come from a Bible class?
No, I would not feel safer. Given the way that Christians have treated me in real life, they don't get a free pass in a hypothetical situation.

yes, I would, although I admit I would be a bit nervous encountering a group of ten men no matter where they just come from.

I lived in Chicago for a number of years. I'm white and I've walked through some of the roughest parts of Chicago at all hours of the night. I've never seen anyone going to or coming from Bible class, especially on the west side. They're too busy buying and selling crack and heroin. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. True story.

No matter where anyone is coming from, there always exists a possibility that they could do harm. We feel psychologically that someone would be less likely to hurt another because they are a "Good Christian", but suppose I had a pentagram on, or a pink triangle T-shirt?

I realize that you probably posted that while the database was down, and didn't see the post right above yours that elaborates on my point...

First, I think few people deny that there are murderers in every segment of the population, including the Christian segment. Second, to make that into a generalization that it somehow represents a wide range of Christians is incorrect and faulty. Third, as I stated in a previous post, I think that, as I'm coming from a different culture, I'm seeing this from a different perspective.

I had a huge long post typed up, but the "database error" page ate it up. So let me just say this:

For future reference, if you're using Firefox, you can hit the back button when you get a database error or anything else, and everything you had ready to type up will still be there. IE might do this too, but I haven't used it in years so I wouldn't know. You can test if your browser does this by preparing to submit a post, writing some stuff into it, and then clicking on a link elsewhere and then hitting the back button.

MORE comfortable? LOL
No, that was the part that creeped me out.

I would feel safer, but there are a lot of places that they could have come from that would make me feel even safer than a Bible class.

Then again, I still wouldn't just walk into them, or allow them to catch up with me. White or black, basketball game or Bible study, I'd probably cross the street.

No.
Simply put I wouldn't walk through a rough area of Chicago by myself.

Well, imagine you were forced to. Say you took a wrong turn and then your car broke down, just after your cell phone battery died or you are getting no signal or something. So you are saying that if you were forced into a dangerous scenario that you would never willingly enter and just when you feel most worried it turns out the would-be threat are actually brothers in the Lord you would not feel at ease?

For those of you who are wondering why they would be there, let's just say that they are helping with a mission that started up to help bring change in this project.

No. My concern would be to get where I was going to safely. Altho how I got in the rough section and at night, all alone, is beyond me. I must know these 10 else how would I know they went to a bible class. I would not feel at all comfortable with 10 men approaching me. 10 cops would have me worried as well. (What are they doing?) I wouldn't like 10 women all in one group approaching me. I don't have much trust under those conditions altho many questions arise as to how, why, who, how well do I know them etc. Lol. Voted no.

I am very surprised at the results of this poll. We can't agree that devout Christians are less likely to beat you up than your average rough-street ghetto dweller? I'm shocked.
Devout Christians? I never saw that stated. :) Altho... But I think there is a big difference between women and men in the same circumstances you posted. Women must walk more defensively and aware than men, in my opinion. Sadly, a part of life. I have seen men go places without very much worry, where I would not go.

Well, I was just adding that because in the OP I meant actual Christians, not just 'cultural Christians'.

That's not an opinion, that's just a fact!
