  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He said, “God already knows what you need, even before you ask.” (Matt. 6:8) That didn’t mean they shouldn’t pray, but that God could be depended on to provide it. He is our Shepherd; we do not want because He supplies all our need.
“Therefore, you should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Your name be honored as holy.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

-Matt. 6:9-13 HCSB
When Jesus said to pray “Your will be done…” what did He mean?

Was there a question in His mind, of what God’s will was? He said He came to do the will of Him who sent Him, so I believe that Jesus knew God’s will. And He was then able to pray effective prayers, based on His understanding of what God’s will was.

But often believers don’t know God’s will. It is usually not knowing that keeps them from praying prayers that change their lives and the lives of others. What did James say?
The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up… - James 5:15 (HCSB)

But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways. – James 1:6-8 (HCSB)
So when we pray, we need to be certain of God’s will, so that we will be able to stand stable against the wind of doubt.

But let him ask in faith without doubting.

What is God’s will? How do we find out so we can begin to pray His will and actually have our prayers answered?

His will is in His word. God’s will for man has been written in the Bible, and He is pretty direct about what He wants, and what He wants us to be doing. Not knowing will destroy us, so it is vital that we know His will for our lives!
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. – Hosea 4:6
As far as healing goes, we have many examples of God’s will for us to live in divine health. Jesus said it was/is His will for the sick to be healed (Matt. 8:3) when the leper, unsure of what Jesus’ work and will was, asked Him if He would heal him. Of course, He did. He healed all who came to Him. Everyone who asked for healing received it.

But let him ask in faith without doubting.

Many try to put the responsibility back onto God, asking in doubt, “Will You heal me?”

Let’s look again at that example of prayer that Jesus gave us. What were His words, exactly?

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

He didn’t pray, “Well, if it be Your will, do this or that…” NO! He said, “Let it be done HERE as it is done THERE.” Where? Heaven! Jesus asked that earth be like heaven, and this was His example to us, how we are to pray.

Do we have any idea what heaven is like? Do we have an ideal, so that when we pray that His will be done on earth like His will is being done in heaven, we know what we’re asking for?

What is the kingdom of heaven like? Are there sick in heaven with God? Is there darkness? Confusion? Doubt? Fear? Anger? Sadness?

Because when we pray for His will to be done here as it is there, we need to know what we’re saying, what we’re asking, so that we can ask in full confidence.

But let him ask in faith without doubting.

When we say, “Father, Your will be done,” we are saying:

“Father, let goodness and peace rule my day, let there be gladness in everything I do, let my life be lived to Your glory, let me walk in the health of heaven, let me be restored to Your ideal for me, let me do Your work, let me love others as You love me, let Your power flow through me, let me heal the sick, let me preach the kingdom with boldness, let Your Life be evidenced in every action I take, let others see You in me, because You live IN me, let Satan’s plans be stopped, let temptation be overcome with good, let the calamity be averted, let the freedom of Christ reign in Your children, let it be obvious on earth that Your will rules here through those called by Your name!”

Jesus was teaching His disciples to pray the will of God into existence by their faith in His will and the power of their prayers. Jesus was teaching us to pray powerful, bold prayers of love and life into the world which does not so easily see His goodness.

The revelation Abraham received was that God would reveal Himself through Abraham’s offspring.

The revelation Moses received was that God would be with His people.

The revelation Jesus received was that God is in us, His beloved children, chosen, accepted, loved, and separated for Him, for His glory.

Then I heard a loud voice from the throne:

“Look! God’s dwelling is with men, and He will live with them.
They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will exist no longer;
Grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer,
Because the previous things have passed away.”

- Rev. 21:3,4 (HCSB)
But let him ask in faith without doubting.

Do you see His will? Do you see what to pray? Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Hi Nice Dream,

That may be a wording problem; I meant that Jesus received for us what God intended for us to have: perfect fellowship with Him; His divine peace (shalom).

He then revealed this and is continuing to reveal this, to us through His Holy Spirit indwelling us. We are now the holy temple of God.

Sorry for the confusion. Of course, Jesus was in the beginning and is the Word, and will be forever. He is the great I AM.
